Chuck Todd suggests that flying migrants to Martha’s Vineyard was a plot to distract from abortion

The masterful political move by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to fly illegal immigrants to wealthy, overwhelmingly white Martha’s Vineyard has badly rattled Democrats who are lashing out in rage and frustration as the border issue has exploded back into the national spotlight less than two months prior to the most important midterm elections in the nation’s history.

While the punditry was wailing in outrage at the audacity of the rising GOP star who dared to defile the elite’s exclusive vacation paradise with brown people, NBC’s Chuck Todd put on his tinfoil hat to suggest that DeSantis’ bold action was a deliberate plot to knock abortion out of the headlines, the one issue that Democrats have been able to successfully use to hoodwink gullible suckers into voting on against their own economic self-interests.

On Sunday’s edition of NBC flagship “Meet the Press,” the flustered Todd bemoaned the reaction to the great Martha’s Vineyard airlift that completely knocked out Senator Lindsey Graham’s bizarrely timed announcement that he would be introducing legislation for a federal ban on most abortions, a gift from the heavens to Democrats courtesy of the South Carolina Republican.

“But there’s a timing question I have, Leigh Ann,” said Todd to Leigh Ann Caldwell of The Washington Post. “I believe it was — is it Tuesday or Wednesday Lindsey Graham comes out with his 15-week abortion ban, and all of a sudden the next day, Ron DeSantis gets that off the front page. I’m not saying they’re connected but, boy, it seemed like convenient timing.”

He then turned to Peter Baker of The New York Times, scrunching his furrowed brow to gripe that the media was outfoxed by DeSantis.

“Peter, I’ve gotten a few people wondering if we’re just getting played by DeSantis, he’s pulling a Trump on us. We’re sitting here, this is not the center of attention, but, boy, he changed the subject and we all went to it. It’s hard to — we know it’s a political stunt, we know it’s for media attention, but these were human beings we couldn’t ignore it,” Todd said, hitting the talking point hard about the migrants being humans who were cruelly exploited by DeSantis.

“Yeah, to say obviously he’s getting criticized for exploiting people for a political purpose but he’s got us talking about it,” Baker responded.

“And the point that he’s making isn’t an irrational one to talk about, what level of responsibility do states that are not on the border have to help out? Fair enough. But obviously doing it in this way is not actually solving the problem,” he added. “But look this is the playbook we’ve seen the last three election cycles. It worked for the Republicans as far as they were concerned with Trump in 2016. It didn’t work in 2018 when he tried it with the caravans. Right? The midterms last time he tried to make immigration …”

“Claire McCaskill would disagree,” Todd interjected, referring to the former Democrat senator who now plies her trade as an MSNBC contributor after being drubbed by GOP Sen. Josh Hawley.

“Obviously it worked in some places,” admitted Baker.

“I was just going to say, it does work in red areas,” the demoralized host added.

What a difference a week makes, from the political sugar high after Graham’s unforced error to the depths of the funk over the illegals and their very brief stay on Martha’s Vineyard before being deported by the bigoted locals. Even worse is the obvious sense of dread now gripping Democrats and their media mouthpieces that DeSantis will strike again.
