Mike Davis: Pretty scary when emboldened federal agents think they can spy on the US president

Fox News host Dan Bongino spoke with former Supreme Court law clerk Mike Davis to get to the bottom of the “sad and scary” politicization of the FBI and compared FBI Director Christopher Wray and his predecessor Jim Comey to bouncers who flex their muscles outside of a bar to keep the undesirables out.

“What happened to the FBI?” Bongino said to kick the segment off on Saturday’s episode of Fox News’s Unfiltered. “Current and former FBI agents say agents are overblowing the threat of domestic extremism, claiming there are more assigned to investigate white supremacists than white supremacists they can actually find.”

“White supremacist quotas at the FBI? This creates a set of perverse incentives for the world’s premier law enforcement agency, doesn’t it?” Bongino asked.

“It does,” Davis agreed. “And this started after 9/11 when Bob Mueller went into the FBI and he consolidated way too much power inside of Washington D.C. and the FBI headquarters, and he and he took away the power from the 56 FBI field offices around the country. So it’s a politicized FBI that’s been weaponized against the ruling class’ political enemies. The current enemies of the ruling class is not terrorists overseas, it’s everyday Americans, and that’s pretty scary.”

Bongino suggested that the consolidation of power to FBI headquarters is how politics became a priority over criminal investigations and Davis agreed, citing several examples of outright lies told to the American people by the FBI.

“I worked for Chuck Grassley, the Senate Judiciary Committee top Republican, and he’s been on to the FBI’s game for decades,” Davis responded. “And he’s the one who exposed the Crossfire Hurricane hoax, where the FBI and the Justice Department made up Russian collusion allegations against President Trump. They spied on him when he was a presidential candidate.”

“They even spied on him when he was the president of the United States,” Davis continued. ” That is pretty scary when federal law enforcement agents are so emboldened that they think that they can spy on the president of the United States. This is not an attack on rank-and-file law enforcement agents around the country. This is about the political leadership in the FBI and at main justice in Washington, D.C.”

Given the extreme politicization of the FBI over the past few years, Bongino asked his guest, “Can the FBI be fixed at this point?”

“We need a Church commission to do a full review of the FBI,” Davis said. “We need to do a house cleaning. When Republicans take over the house and hopefully the Senate in January, I know my former boss Chuck Grassley will be on the judiciary committee and he will be ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work.”

(In 1975, which was dubbed the “Year of Intelligence,” Sen. Frank Church, D-Idaho, chaired a committee investigating intelligence abuses by the CIA, FBI, and the National Security Agency.)
