Charlie Crist’s lockdown-loving running mate on the Democrat ticket is boasting about her resume that supposedly makes her uniquely qualified for the job of Florida lieutenant governor.

At a campaign event on Tuesday in Cape Coral, Florida, Karla Hernandez-Mats reportedly told an audience that “I’m a teacher; I am a sp-ed teacher, so my major was emotionally-handicapped education, okay? That by itself qualifies me to deal with the dysfunctional legislature…a unique set of, you know, skill sets in order to deal with them.”
This comment, in footage obtained by Fox News Digital, prompted applause and laughter from liberal supporters in the room. In the footage, the candidate also described herself as an activist.
“The Crist campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment,” FNC noted. “[E]ver since she became Crist’s running mate, past comments made by Hernandez-Mats have come back to haunt her.”
In this instance, Hernandez-Mats, the president of the Miami-Dade County teachers union, was touting her background in working with special needs children.
Far-left teachers’ unions are one of the Democrats’ prime constituency groups.
Hernandez-Mats was shredded by Floridians last October when she shared a tweet comparing concerned parents who attend school board meetings to serial killers in the movies.

The would-be lieutenant governor is also a fan of vaccine and mask mandates and appeared to mourn the death Cuba’s longtime dictator Fidel Castro. Some critics have even derisively nicknamed the gaffe-prone Democrat Karla Marx.
According to the RealClearPolitics polling aggregate, Florida’s GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis, with Lieutenant Gov. Jeanette Nunez, currently have a four-point lead over the Crist ticket.
In the end, the margin of victory could be a lot larger, given the way the pro-freedom, pro-parents, and pro-business DeSantis has governed.
Crist, a former Florida governor who recently quit Congress to campaign full-time against DeSantis, is the ultimate political chameleon; he morphed from Republican to independent to Democrat during his career (which consists of several election defeats), shamelessly and disingenuously adjusting his political principles, if any, in the process.
Now indistinguishable from any other authoritarian Democrat, Crist recently had what some likened to Hillary Clinton’s basket-of-deplorables moment when he explicitly told DeSantis voters that he didn’t want them to switch to the blue team.
“Those who support the governor should stay with him and vote for him. I don’t want your vote. If you have that hate in your heart — keep it. I want the vote of the people of Florida who care about our state. Good Democrats, good independents, good Republicans — unify with this ticket,” Crist declared.

In an appearance on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show, DeSantis responded, in part, that “people support me because I kept the state open and protected their jobs. Charlie Crist wanted it locked down, so that’s not hate in their heart; they’re just appreciative that they had a governor who was standing up for them.”
Fox News noted that “In April, Crist said he was ‘open’ to mandating mask-wearing depending on whether the spread of COVID makes a comeback under his governorship.”
