In a purported tweet on Sunday, outspoken actor James Woods called out the Biden administration for reportedly negotiating a plea bargain with alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and several other defendants.
Woods’ social media message, which appeared to be subsequently deleted, also highlighted the awful timing of the revelation.
“To see this headline on September 11 is appalling. Why is justice such an elusive concept in America today? Will the heinous among us never be held accountable? This is an outrage, and to read about it on this sacred day is an insult to the fallen,” Woods wrote.
Mohammed was captured in March 2003 and has been held in custody at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp since 2006. His trial on terrorism-related charges has been postponed several times.
Woods, one of the few Hollywood luminaries who publicly express conservative views, was reacting to a report originally from CBS News that the news organization “has confirmed military prosecutors and defense attorneys are negotiating potential plea deals that could take the death penalty off the table for five defendants charged in connection with the 9/11 attack.”
According to CBS, “their cases have stalled over access to CIA evidence and, recently, over COVID delays.”
CBS added that this development has outraged some of the 9/11 victims’ families (see the video embedded below).
“The trial for the five men has been bogged down in legal challenges for years. Prosecutors attempted to advance via pre-trial hearings in late 2021, but there remains no end in sight,” Fox News further explained, which seems to invoke the legal adage justice delayed is justice denied.
“Mohammed and his co-defendants are charged with crimes including terrorism, hijacking and 2,976 counts of murder for their alleged roles planning and providing logistical support to the Sept. 11 plot,” Fox News detailed.

CBS tried to obtain further details about the potential negotiations that could result in the continued operation of the Gitmo military prison in Cuba that Barack Obama wanted to shut down.
“A spokesman for the military trials did not answer CBS News’ questions, but confirmed ‘the parties are currently engaged in preliminary plea negotiations,’ citing recent court records. If a plea deal goes ahead, and the 9/11 defendants get lengthy sentences, there’s a law in place that prevents their transfer to U.S. soil and federal custody. That means the Guantanamo prison could remain open indefinitely.”
In addition to avoiding the death penalty, the quintet would supposedly receive treatment “for alleged torture they experienced while in CIA custody,” Fox News noted.

Parenthetically, it is often said that many right-wingers work in the entertainment sector in front and behind the camera, and the equivalent.
Keeping their non-woke opinions under wraps seems to be the only way to avoid being canceled by the industry, however. Well-established show business celebrities like Woods, 75, are so far along in their careers that cancellation is no longer a significant consideration.
It’s ironic that Hollywood movers and shakers have repeatedly condemned the 1950s blacklist and produced numerous movies about that period.
Apart from a tweet about the passing of Queen Elizabeth, Woods in late July explained his recent inactivity on Twitter by indicating that he is taking a sabbatical.
He also told his 2.5 million followers on the platform that “My fans and friends on Twitter mean the world to me. I am your humble servant!”
Sabbatical. I’m working on some projects that involve primary creativity (like writing and composing). Sometimes a “brain break” from social media is a healthy thing. https://t.co/zH5nN8qEOb

Thanks, but I do try to interact as often as I can. My fans and friends on Twitter mean the world to me. I am your humble servant! https://t.co/p0ehsizLsh

Other Twitter users are registering their opposition, in various ways, to the potential deal. Here is just a small sample:
The Biden Admin doesn’t always negotiate with terrorists who murdered thousands of innocents, but when they do – they do it on the Anniversary of #September11 https://t.co/y5iAL3nRkE

Plea deal? What planet are these prosecutors on?

This piece of excrement should have been tried, convicted, and put to death 17 years ago. He was caught in March 2003. There’s no reason he should still be drawing air. And on today of all days to announce this crap. Biden must be working on a prisoner exchange deal like Obama’s.
