The Democratic mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, has previously declared the Windy City a “welcoming sanctuary city,” but when illegal immigrants were bused in from Texas, she promptly shipped them off to the suburbs with no notice to the Republican mayor.

Lightfoot wasted no time in blasting Texas Governor Greg Abbott and calling him “racist” and a “xenophobe” for sending busloads of illegal immigrants to her city.
“This is about a cheap political point. It’s not about sharing the load. To Greg Abbott and his enablers in Texas: with these continued political stunts, (he) has confirmed what many of us had already known: he’s a man without any morals, humanity, or shame,” Lightfoot said earlier in September according to Breitbart, taking a swipe at Abbott’s faith and character.
Despite her professed love for those here illegally, Lightfoot loaded the nearly 100 immigrants back onto buses and sent them to the Burr Ridge Hampton Inn in DuPage County, according to WGN 9 News. She did it with no notice to town leaders who are shocked and angry over the move. Most of the illegal immigrants are reportedly Venezuelan.
Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso (R) stated that Chicago did not bother to notify him or coordinate the dropping off of dozens of illegal immigrants at the hotel.

“I am concerned neither the village administrator nor I were told about this,” Grasso stated. “We want to know: Why Burr Ridge?”
Despite Cook County being a so-called sanctuary county, Grasso pointed out that his town never took a stance on the issue. In fact, when he ran for congress, his platform called for reducing illegal immigration and defunding sanctuary cities.
The mayor also contended that the city government only found out that Chicago had bused illegal immigrants there when residents called city hall to complain about it.
Following the cat getting out of the bag over the incident, Grasso and members of the Burr Ridge town council were belatedly invited to take part in a conference call with state officials.

Lightfoot deflected when confronted over sending the immigrants to Burr Ridge and instead castigated Abbott for not “coordinating” with Chicago or Illinois officials over busing illegal immigrants to their doorstep.
“My frustration comes from the actions of the governor of Texas,” Lightfoot charged on Sept. 4, after the first bus load of 50 illegals arrived in Chicago. “There could be a level of coordination and cooperation, but he chooses to do none of those things and instead tries to send human beings — not cargo, not freight — human beings across the country to an uncertain destination.”
“He is manufacturing a human crisis and it makes no sense to me,” she continued.

In other words, she accuses Abbott of exactly what she did to Grasso.
“I’m the mayor of the village, I should have been told. I’m as frustrated as Mayor Lightfoot was in her not being told,” Mayor Gary Grasso said according to Fox News. “I’m frustrated but we’re dealing with the situation and I’m going to keep my residents and my businesses apprised.”
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker made similar comments, “What the governor of Texas is doing is disgusting and it needs to stop. It shouldn’t be that the governor of Texas is taking these people and treating them like cattle, treating them like property, putting them on buses and sending them wherever he wants to send them.”
Abbott clapped back at Lightfoot’s comments, accusing her of deflecting the blame to him instead of putting it where it belongs… on President Biden.
“[Biden’s] inaction at our border is putting the lives of Texans at risk & is overwhelming our communities,” the Texas governor declared in a tweet. “Texas is doing Biden’s job to secure the border.”
