D.C. Mayor Bowser declares public emergency, blames TX, AZ for turning U.S. capital into ‘border town’

Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser blamed Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey for turning the nation’s capital into a “border town” as she declared a public emergency on Thursday to cope with the busloads of illegal migrants the Republican leaders have sent to her city.

“So it’s been said, but it’s worth reiterating that the governors of Texas and Arizona have created this crisis and the federal government has not stepped up to assist the District of Columbia,” Bowser said. “So we, along with our regional partners will do what we’ve always done. We’ll rise to the occasion.”

“We’ve learned from border towns like El Paso and Brownsville,” she continued. “In many ways the governors, Texas and Arizona have turned us into a border town.”

Of course, that was exactly the point Governors Abbott and Ducey have been trying to make since they started shuttling illegals from the Mexican border to Democrat-run cities such as D.C. and New York City.

As BizPac Review previously reported, Governor Abbott announced in April that he would begin transporting migrants, just weeks before Title 42 was set to be lifted.

“To help local officials, whose communities are being overwhelmed by hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the Biden administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden administration, to Washington D.C.,” Abbott said at the time. “We are sending them to the United States Capitol where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border.”

By the end of July, after more than 5,000 were unceremoniously dropped in D.C., Bowser, who had previously declared the capital to be a “sanctuary city,” begged for the deployment of the National Guard to deal with the “humanitarian crisis.”

“Washington, D.C., finally understands what Texans have been dealing with every single day, as our communities are overrun and overwhelmed by thousands of illegal immigrants thanks to President (Joe) Biden’s open border policies,” Abbott’s press secretary, Renae Eze, declared in a statement to CNN. “If the mayor wants a solution to this crisis, she should call on President Biden to take immediate action to secure the border – something he has failed to do.”

On Thursday, Bowser stated that D.C. will make sure the migrants are properly greeted.

“We don’t know how long this will take to resolve,” she said. “We don’t know how long they will continue busing. And so the right thing to do here is to be prepared, to ensure we can greet every bus. We can get people off on the right foot. We can get them where they wanna go, and that will ultimately help them in their immigration.”

To that end, the mayor announced the formation of a Migrant Services Office to assist the new arrivals with the immigration process as part of her public emergency declaration.

Under the plan, the Director of DHS would “provide temporary services and supports to migrants arriving from the southern border states.”

Funds will be set aside by the City Administrator and Chief Financial Officer “to respond to the emergency.”

Online, Bowser is being blasted for her failure to live up to her city’s “sanctuary” status.

“The federal government has not stepped up to help border towns either; maybe your complaint should be issued to them, instead of the border states that have been dealing with 2.5 million instead of your pathetic 8000,” one Twitter user stated. “You declared yourself a sanctuary city. Give sanctuary.”

Here’s a sample of some of the other not-too-sympathetic reactions to Mayor Bowser’s “emergency.”
