Disney-owned cartoon features Antichrist daughter, mother who slept with Satan: ‘Couldn’t get to remote fast enough’

Despite suffering financial losses from delving into the culture war at the heart of American politics, Disney has remained unrelenting with projects pushing the envelope and an advertisement for a new production left Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) scrambling to “get to the remote fast enough to shield [his] 11-year-old from the preview.”

The college football season is underway and, as games draw in massive viewership, companies seek to capitalize on large audiences to sell their wares. On Sunday, that included 5.87 million people tuning in to the LSU opener against Florida State on Disney-owned ABC where they were treated to a preview of the new FX adult cartoon available on Hulu, “Little Demon.”

“I couldn’t get to the remote fast enough to shield my 11-year-old from the preview,” Johnson wrote on Facebook when the commercial ran  and I wonder how many other children were exposed to it–and how many millions more will tune in to the new series, owned and marketed by DISNEY.”

The Louisiana lawmaker went on to include Disney’s description of the show which states, “Thirteen years after being impregnated by Satan, a reluctant mother, Laura, and her Antichrist Daughter, Chrissy, attempt to live an ordinary life in Delaware, but are constantly thwarted by monstrous forces, including Satan, who yearns for custody of his daughter’s soul.”

In speaking with Newsweek, creators Darcy Fowler, Seth Kirschner and Kieran Valla expressed how animation has allowed them “to maybe push more boundaries and show more and do more than we’d be able to in the live-action space” and that includes graphic violence, nudity and even depictions of character Chrissy’s first period.

Johnson’s reaction to the profane content included his warning to “STAY FAR FROM IT” followed by the Biblical quote, “‘Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.’ (1 Peter 5:8)” garnered as much negative feedback as it did support with users commenting “keep your religion out of politics.”

However, the congressman was undeterred and provided a followup on Tuesday reaffirming his stance on the freedom of speech and asserting that his faith demanded he speak out on what he observed.

“Yesterday, I shared a FB post expressing my concern and a notice to parents about the disturbing new animated sitcom ‘Little Demon,’ created and marketed by Disney/FX. An ad with its dark trailer was played during Disney/ABC’s Labor Day Eve broadcast of the LSU-Florida State game which the ratings say dominated Sunday night TV with 5.87 million total viewers,” he wrote. “As of this morning, my FB just surpassed that number and reached more than 6.13 million people.”

“Free speech is an important principle, and in this country everyone can obviously make their own decisions about what media they and their families consume. But a corollary is that Christians have the freedom to fulfill our obligation to ‘speak the truth in love’ (Eph. 4:15) even–and sometimes most importantly–when it may not be popular,” Johnson concluded.

Further reactions to the representative’s post were as divided as the nation is on culture with many thanking him for speaking out against the content and cutting ties with Disney while others mocked him for his outrage signaling their own varying levels of depravity.
