President Joe Biden may be stridently working to demonize supporters of former President Donald Trump through his so-called “battle for the soul of the nation,” but when one California liberal defied the “pit in [his] stomach” to meet some MAGA Republicans in person, the experience left him “absolutely baffled.”

Samuel Donner runs the social media account “100New Friends” on TikTok and Tuesday he joined “Fox & Friends” cohost Steve Doocy to discuss his experience attending a Trump rally. After having already spent a few days in Memphis, Tenn., talking to people as part of his endeavor to forge connections, the young man expressed his uncertainty ahead of the event because of his preconceived notions about conservatives.
“Growing up in L.A., you think that these events are going to be like, very aggressive,” Donner explained. “I was absolutely baffled that people wanted to talk and would actually be friends with me.”

The project that Donner began on a college campus in collaboration with media company Jubilee is all “about starting conversations.”
“We’re just trying to find common ground between humans,” the TikToker explained. “And I think at the end of the day, humans have a lot more common ground than we’re led to believe.”
“It’s just about starting those conversations. If you can start those conversations, you can actually understand where that common ground is, where it starts and maybe where it ends, and even where it ends you can discuss with each other like, ‘hey, let’s find that common ground,'” he went on.
Ahead of the rally, Donner described, “I was so nervous going in, like, I had a pit in my stomach the whole time.” However, by the end of the event, he had successfully made 49 of his targeted 100 new friends.
“There were a couple of people who didn’t want to talk to me, but overall, everyone was super friendly,” he expressed and detailed how he had even been invited to attend a women’s Bible study group with his new friend Holly. As depicted in the video, Donner did in fact go to study group and, once again, “experienced incredible kindness.”
The conclusion drawn by the young liberal was similar to that drawn by Dr. Karlyn Borysenko in 2020 when having “watched a lot of MSNBC” became “one of those Democrats who considered anyone who voted for Trump a racist.”
“I thought they were horrible (yes, even deplorable) and worked very hard to eliminate their voices from my spaces by unfriending or blocking people who spoke about their support of him, however minor their comments,” she wrote at the time.
However, when she attended a Trump rally for herself in New Hampshire she realized it was time to leave the Democrat Party. Though Donner did not express any such change in politics after his encounter, he did bring attention to the stark difference between reality and how corporate media and politicians depict conservatives.
One social media user suggested that Donner should embark on the same mission at a Biden rally “and see if the results are similar with the tolerant Left,” garnering the response, “You would be lucky to find a hundred at a Biden Rally.”
