Biden has not had a ‘real’ sit-down interview in 200-plus days, books comedy stops instead

President Joe Biden has not sat down with American journalists in more than 200 days, opting instead to tape comedy sketches with late-night hosts such as Jimmy Kimmel and Jay Leno.

Most recently, Biden made an appearance on CNBC’s “Jay Leno’s Garage,” to discuss the future of electric vehicles, and that was on the one-year anniversary of the suicide attack on the Kabul airport where 13 U.S. service members were killed.

Outside of a June 18 appearance on an episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” the president has given only four other interviews, Fox News noted.

Biden spoke to Israel TV reporter Yonit Levi, the Associated Press’ Josh Boak, Substack author Heather Cox Richardson and progressive podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen.

“The White House has often pushed back on criticism that Biden does not do enough interviews, pointing the press to off-the-cuff answers he frequently takes from reporters,” according to Fox News.

“Yet, these short exchanges rarely allow for the president to answer follow-up questions and often allow him to quickly skirt out when he gets a tricky question,” it continued.

His last interview with an American correspondent was 208 days ago on February 10 when he sat down with NBC’s Lester Holt for a scripted exchange discussing state coronavirus policies, tensions in Europe, inflation, and the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.

And that interview was recorded.

Since that interview, Russia invaded Ukraine and the United States has committed $7 billion to the conflict, the Department of Justice raided former President Trump’s Mar-A-Lago estate and Biden made a public address attacking Republican voters.

The American public has had no opportunity to query the president on these topics and the absence has left many wondering what the president is avoiding.

The left blasted former President Trump during his presidency for an alleged lack of bipartisan accessibility but is mum on Biden’s avoidance of American correspondents.

Biden has instead ramped up campaign appearances, addressing voters in key states ahead of midterm elections.

Last week, the president delivered a major political speech in Philadelphia, where he claimed that democracy was under “assault” by MAGA Republicans.

“As I stand here tonight, equality and democracy are under assault. We do ourselves no favor to pretend otherwise,” Biden said. “There’s no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans. And that is a threat to this country.”

He further tweeted that Trump and “MAGA Republicans” are “a threat to the very soul of this country.”

Biden has since walked back those comments, claiming to have referred only to “Trump-supporting politicians” who embrace the former president’s “extreme” ideology.

Twitter users have also noticed a lack of communication between the president and his cabinet.

“Hmmm…I wonder why it’s been 208 days since Hiden Biden has done ANY sit-down interview?” wrote Twitter user Lulu J Ferentinos.

“Today Biden finally met with his cabinet for the 5th time in his presidency,” Salem Lee Jakes wrote, comparing the record with Trump’s 16 meetings and former President Obama’s 9 meetings by this point in their presidencies.
