‘Zucker punch!’ Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shares video of sparring session with pro MMA fighter

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg may be trying to a shed perception that he is merely a tech nerd by sharing a video of himself training in mixed martial arts.

The brief but very video viral depicts the billionaire sparring with Khai “the Shadow” Wu, a professional fighter.

In the session posted to his Instagram page on Saturday, Zuckerberg, 38, can be seen impressively punching, kicking, and grappling on the ground using Brazilian Ju-Jitsu techniques.

The video has received nearly 260,000 likes, and close to 8,000 comments as of this writing, including praise from former UFC champ Conor McGregor (who described the workout as [expletive] awesome), and others associated with the sport.

Several times during the encounter, Wu said “nice!” in response to some of Zuckerberg’s smooth moves.

In a recent appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast (where he revealed that Facebook suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story allegedly at the behest of the FBI), Zuckerberg, an avid surfer, said he’s been practicing mixed martial arts for about a year, and also noted that there is an overlap between the surfing and MMA communities.

“It really is the best sport really. The question isn’t, ‘How did I get into it?’ It’s, ‘How did I not know about it until just now?’ From the very first session that I did, like five minutes in, I was like, ‘Where has this been my whole life?…My mom made me do three varsity sports, and my life took a wrong turn when I chose to do fencing competitively instead of wrestling in high school or something. There’s something that is so primal about it,” an unusually animated Zuckerberg told the influential Spotify podcaster, who also has a martial arts background.

Zuckerberg indicated that he primarily trains with Dave Camarillo of Gorilla Jiu Jitsu.

Rogan, who does UFC commentary on pay-per-view broadcasts, reacted to the Instagram post: “This is great! I’m so happy to see this. Training looks solid too!”

In a caption to the video, Zuckerberg wrote, “One of my training partners, @khaiwu, is making his @ufcfightpass debut tonight. Go get it Khai and looking forward to a great fight!”

Whether Zuckerberg sees MMA as a substantial business opportunity is a matter of speculation. According the Daily Mail, however, Zuckerberg “met UFC president Dana White for dinner in late June, and White has expressed he knows of Zuckerberg’s love for the sport, though its unclear whether they met over any professional endeavors.”

As alluded to above, Wu fought at Urijah Faber’s A1 Combat 5 on Saturday evening in California, and lost by unanimous decision to Joshua Dillon.
