Randi Weingarten stunningly admits teachers are ‘social justice warriors’

A narrative shift has been underway when it comes to the politically charged agenda of activists in education and, on Thursday, teachers union boss Randi Weingarten appeared to close the loop on the denial of woke curriculum with an outright admission of teachers becoming “social justice warriors.”

Weingarten, president of the nation’s second-largest teachers union, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), was joined by Education Secretary Miguel Cardona and Health and Human Service Secretary Xavier Becerra among others as they participated in a back-to-school town hall. Hosted in collaboration with the White House and the National Education Association, the largest teachers union, Weingarten lashed out at politicians as she reacted to the reported issue of a teacher shortage at the beginning of the new school year.

“Very few teachers thought that they were going into teaching to be social justice warriors,” the union president unequivocally stated after arguing that “People would want to be teachers if they knew they’d be respected.”

Having previously been called out for her seeming lack of self-awareness, Weingarten appeared to be engaged in extreme gaslighting during the town hall following reports like that from Politico that detailed a shortage of around 300,000 teachers and staff for the 2022-2023 school year. Earlier this year, the union head had been called out over tweeting that “Nearly 9 out of 10 respondents say schools have become too politicized, following a year of political attacks on teachers waged by politicians stoking culture wars and banning books for political gain.”

On Thursday she reiterated her finger-pointing at politicians but backtracked attacks at concerned parents who have been treated as domestic terrorists by the federal government over speaking out at school board meetings.

“That has been what has created some of the burnout,” Weingarten said as she called out the actions of teachers as “mask police” while her union promoted the draconian response to COVID and the banning of certain age-inappropriate books peddled by her associates. “And that’s not parents. That’s politicians. Parents just want the best for their kids. And so do the teachers.”

“It has not been easy, not just the last two years, but the inequity, the injustice, the lack of opportunity,” she carried on as she leaned into the SJW lexicon, “the lack of a level playing field. And teachers are essentially the first responders to all this, and what they ask for is they ask for respect.”

However, Weingarten herself has been guilty of hyper-politicization of these issues and had recently been called out for promoting a fake claim about a list of books that had been banned in Florida.

“I should have double checked before I retweet this list. My bad,” Weingarten tweeted by way of apology. “Looks like some of the books weren’t banned. Book bans are very real & dangerous…”

Weingarten’s behavior stood as one example of her track record according to Tiffany Justice, founder of Moms for Liberty. In speaking with the Daily Mail, Justice suggested of the union boss, “She’s an arsonist that pretends to be a firefighter.”

The Mail also laid out that the AFT has already contributed $11,338,132 to “candidates, parties and Super PACS” so far this year and “all but $75 of those funds have gone to Democrats,” showing how far from apolitical her organization is.
