Testy KJP claims admin is ‘securing the border’, then blames GOP for rainbow fentanyl pouring into US

Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy grilled White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on the rainbow fentanyl pouring across the border that is killing kids while she laughably asserted that “we are securing the border.”

The confrontation took place on Wednesday during the White House daily press briefing. Jean-Pierre hotly defended the Biden administration’s record on securing the border and efforts to stop illegal drugs from coming into the country from Mexico.

A bulletin has been issued of brightly-colored “rainbow fentanyl” that resembles Sweet Tarts and is targeting children and young users. The Drug Enforcement Administration is warning Americans to be on the lookout for an “emerging trend of colorful fentanyl.”

According to the New York Post, there are 300 daily US overdose deaths. Over 107,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2021 with at least 71,000 of them from fentanyl and related compounds.

“Rainbow fentanyl—fentanyl pills and powder that come in a variety of bright colors, shapes, and sizes—is a deliberate effort by drug traffickers to drive addiction amongst kids and young adults,” DEA Administrator Anne Milgram stated.

“The men and women of the DEA are relentlessly working to stop the trafficking of rainbow fentanyl and defeat the Mexican drug cartels that are responsible for the vast majority of the fentanyl that is being trafficked in the United States,” she added.

“There’s a big problem now that ‘rainbow fentanyl,’ which is designed to target children, has been found in 18 states. What specifically is the President doing about this?” Doocy asked.

“We see those same numbers as well. But the fact [is] that we’re, you know, we are securing the border,” Jean-Pierre claimed and then cited data showing an increase in fentanyl seizures at the southern border in July.

“The fact that we are securing record levels of funding from DHS so they can stop illicit drugs from entering into the country, the fact that it’s not just drug traffickers that we’re dealing with as well, we’re stopping financiers. This is what’s happening with this — under this administration,” she said defensively.

Asserting that the Biden administration was having an impact on the trafficking, Jean-Pierre went on to insist that they are doing their job, all evidence to the contrary.

“I will say that we have seen a 200% increase of fentanyl seizures, which means that we are doing the job of catching drug traffickers,” she lamely claimed.

She went on to snap at Doocy, “If Republicans want to help us stop overdose[s] and stop our kids getting overdosed because of these dangerous drugs, because of this fentanyl that we’re seeing in the streets, we’re happy to work with them. But they’re not.”

“I’m moving on,” she snarled, ending the line of questioning.

Biden released an Overdose Awareness Week proclamation on Saturday. That proclamation didn’t bother to mention that the drug is largely manufactured in China and then smuggled through Mexico.

Trump commented in 2019, “I said to President Xi that we cannot let fentanyl into our country. Almost 100 percent comes from China. It’s devastating. As you know, better than I do, it’s devastating. And he has promised to… make it a criminal act at the highest level, which in China means the death penalty.”

Doocy’s grilling of the press secretary follows him questioning her Monday on unvaccinated illegal immigrants walking across the border while Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic is banned from playing in the US because he is refusing the COVID jab.

“It’s not that simple,” Jean-Pierre clapped back. “It’s not just that people are walking across the border. We have a plan in place. This is not like switching the lights on. This is going to take a process. We are fixing a broken system that was actually left by the last administration.”

“The US government also does not comment on medical information of individual travelers,” she tersely said.

She would go on to claim, “They’re two different things,” referring to the tennis player versus illegal immigrants getting vaccinated.

“Thousands of people are walking in in a day,” Doocy shot back alluding to unvaccinated illegal immigrants. “Some of them turn themselves over, some of them – tens of thousands a week are not.”
