Karl Rove and Juan Williams square off in Fox News throwdown over Biden smearing Republicans as fascists

Sparks flew on Fox News when former White House official Karl Rove squared off with left-wing propagandist Juan Williams over President Joe Biden’s despicable characterization of millions of Republicans as enemies of democracy who are motivated by “semi-fascism” during a Thursday speech that veered into hateful demagoguery.

During the panel discussion on “Fox News Sunday,” the topic of Biden’s dramatic escalation of his already strident rhetoric came up with Rove, who has been widely credited with being “the architect” of the George W. Bush presidency, disagreeing with Williams’ defense of the reprehensible remarks of a man who lied when he promised Americans that he would be a unifier during his 2020 presidential campaign.

The always weaselly Williams played the overused January 6th card to deny that Biden’s demonizing of Trump voters wasn’t a more virulent version of Hillary Clinton’s infamous “basket of deplorables” remarks that may have contributed to her losing the 2016 election.

“I think if people behave that way, then they can expect to be called semi-fascist because it’s anti-democratic action,” Williams said. “You are acting against the Constitution of these United States, and I think, you know, without being dramatic, that’s how democracy dies. They were trying to undermine, to subvert this Constitution and I think – we didn’t play it – but I think it’s important to say that President Biden differentiated between that group of people and conservative Republicans…” as Rove listened and shook his head.

When it was Rove’s turn to talk, he warned Republican candidates of not understanding the contentious issue of abortion and the conflicting views of Americans before he rejected Williams’s assertions.

“Joe Biden, President Biden was attacking Republicans generally, he was not talking about the people who assaulted the Capitol – that sits to the south of us here – he was attacking the entire party,” he said.

“And you saw that in Cedric Richmond’s comments who said ‘well we’re really sort of big, we’re willing to work with the semi-fascist Republicans on issues of common ground,'” he added, referring to the former White House aide and DNC Senior Adviser Congressman’s earlier remarks.

“This was not what in keeping with what the president promised us, ‘my whole soul is in it,’ he said at his inaugural, ‘bringing America together, uniting our people, uniting our nation, that was after January 6th,” he said referring to Biden’s lies about being president for ALL Americans and seeking unity.

He continued quoting the divider in chief.

“‘We must see each other not as adversaries but as neighbors, we should treat each other with dignity and respect,’ he was not treating his political…”

Williams shot back, “he said clearly ‘I’m not talking about conservative Republicans.’”

“No he didn’t say that,” Rove said. “Those words never passed his lips,” as the two talked over each other before Fox News anchor Jennifer Griffin jumped in and steered the conversation back on track.

Biden’s veering into language that stopped just short of accusing his political foes of being subhuman is causing problems, so much so that damage control is already underway that the human gaffe machine once again went rogue.

“You know Chuck what’s interesting about when he as you described, used the word semi-fascism to describe the MAGA philosophy this week,” NBC News White House correspondent Peter Alexander told “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd on Sunday morning.

“Let’s go back to March when he was on Poland, he said of Vladimir Putin that he couldn’t stay in power and that became controversial,” he said. “The White House you know, backpedaled on that, walked that back, there’s no backpedaling on this, it’s clear that there’s a more aggressive strategy we talked about the way that they were handling the debate about student loans…”

“When I spoke to aides, this wasn’t a teleprompter speech,” he said, “this is what he’s been thinking, they said that he said it out loud, this was done not on camera, but it fires up Democrats, it juices up the base because they want to see him be more aggressive, but it also does, you know, it does become problematic because you know, this is a guy who said he wanted to be a unifier.”

Biden hasn’t only gone back on his promise to be a unifier, he has doused that bridge with gasoline and torched it.
