Jesse Watters says migrants bused to NYC are treated better than local homeless, adversely affecting schools

Fox News host Jesse Watters weighed in on the ongoing busing of illegal immigrants to New York City as a part of Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s relocation effort, noting that among those most affected will be the homeless and children in classrooms whose education has already been interrupted by the COVID lockdowns and school closures.

On Monday’s edition of “The Five,” the group discussed the impact of the migrants who continue to arrive in the Big Apple where they are being treated better than homeless citizens, receiving far more attention from city leaders who have gone to great lengths to roll out the welcome mat for the new arrivals who are being given free food, lodging, healthcare, school supplies and even cellphones.

“If I were a homeless person in America, I’d be upset because I used to be the toast of the town in Manhattan. Remember? De Blasio was letting me stay in hotels for free. Joe was sending me free crack pipes. I mean, I could do pretty much whatever I wanted, I could light the Fox News Christmas tree on fire and walk out the next day from jail, no bail,” Watters said referring to the disturbed individual who torched the outlet’s giant tree last December.

“And now all of a sudden there’s like some better-looking person in town that the Democrats are just falling all over,” he said. “They’re giving them free healthcare, they’re doing interviews, they get the new Biden phone, I’m still stuck with the old Obama phone, that doesn’t even work.”

“I actually saw a homeless guy today on the Upper East Side with a phone, and he was in a sleeping bag, it was like an REI sleeping bag. It was a really nice sleeping bag,” he added. “They shouldn’t have all this kind of stuff. So right, now the migrants are like the new victim flavor of the week. And if you’re homeless and you’re American, I’m sorry, go to the back of the line.”

Watters then turned to how the migrant surge is going to adversely affect the quality of learning in classrooms.

“But if you’re a parent in Manhattan, I’d be even more angry because my child, it was lost a year during COVID and so you’re already behind and now you’re putting like five migrants into your fourth-grade classroom. They don’t really speak English,” he said.

“Don’t you think that’s going to slow the lesson plan down? I mean, you might get a better soccer team out of it. I’m sure the coaches are asking Abbott to send buses faster before the season starts,” Watters said jokingly.

How much better are the migrants being treated compared to the city’s homeless?

According to reports, New York City Mayor Eric Adams wants to convert a swanky Times Square hotel into a de facto homeless shelter for up to 600 migrant families.

The Row NYC hotel, previously known as the Milford Plaza was featured in television commercials in the 1980s touting it as the “Lullaby of Broadway,” enticing tourists with images of marquees of nearby Broadway shows, singing and dancing employees, waiters serving up flaming delicacies tableside, and plush accommodations.

The city’s preferential treatment for the new arrivals isn’t sitting well with homeless citizens who are now playing second fiddle to the migrants.

“We’ve all been here waiting, going through this process, and let me tell you: They’re getting everything real quick,” said Ronald Francois, 55, a Navy veteran from Queens. “They got more in four or five days than I got in 29! They’re brushing us aside,” the New York Post reported.
