Since Christ Licht took over at CNN his talk of a shakeup at the network had been a source of speculation as to whether any on-air talent would truly be shown the door. Now that Brian Stelter was handed his walking papers, the rumors are carrying weight and one insider suggested they know who may yet find themselves waiting in the unemployment line.
Licht has made a lot of statements since becoming the president of CNN and many of them have focused on steering the network away from partisanship and toward unbiased news reporting. Thursday, the network head’s decision to cancel “Reliable Sources” and send Stelter packing made headlines and by Friday, Jon Nicosia, the former managing editor at Mediaite was listing the likes of Don Lemon and Jim Acosta on the “stay or go” list with more names yet to come.
Nicosia took to Twitter and posted, “Source: Once the coming shakeup at [CNN] is done, don’t expect John Berman, Alisyn Camerota, Jim Acosta, Brianna Keilar, Jake Tapper, John King, and Don Lemon to still be at the network OR have their current show assignments.”

The serious moves that Licht allegedly has planned didn’t end there as Nicosia went on to add that his source reported, “The final ‘stay or go’ has not been finalized and more names will be added.”

According to Mediaite, during Friday’s editorial call Licht had stated, “This is a time of change, and I know that it’s unsettling. There will be more changes and you might not understand it or like it all.”
Nicosia’s source went on to explain the reported reason for the end of “Reliable Sources” and that too added credence that the hubris of the network’s personalities would be their own undoing.
“Source: Stelter was a ‘go’ because ‘he was seen as working against current management’s goals,” Nicosia wrote. “Leaking, stirring disatisfaction [sic] internally.’ One CNN source went on to say ‘He started believing he was the only thing between ‘democracy’ and anarchy.”

Should that be the case, Lemon may certainly not be far behind as he himself had been guilty of much the same in a recent interview where he attempted to counter the reported direction of Licht.
“Let me just say, I don’t think that’s exactly what Chris is saying,” Lemon argued. “I think that’s a narrative that has been placed in the medium. I think what Chris wants to do is to be able to have Republicans and Democrats and whatever your political stance is on CNN so that you can be accountable and that you can answer for it.”

Don Lemon has had an unfortunate trajectory since Trump left office. First, his onscreen buddy Chris Cuomo got the boot. Then, he was given a talk show on CNN’s streaming channel and promoted the hell out of it, only to be canceled within a week or two. Now this. When it rains… pic.twitter.com/ASELviGu14

While Lemon and his colleagues may soon be in for a rude awakening, those reacting online were hardly surprised at the list of cuts the network was reportedly prepared to make.
No surprise. Chris Licht wants to run a serious organization.

We can only hope. Perhaps CNN might have a shot at becoming the most trusted name in news. At the moment, they are a biased joke of a network.

Oh to have newscasters rather than editorialists on all cable news programs…the dream
— Kimberly Torma (@kstorma1) August 19, 2022
The country would be entirely different if we had newscasters giving news instead of masquerading as journalists. 80% of all the division in the country comes directly from these phony, biased editorialists today while they pretend to be news people.

Couldn’t happen to better people. Adios, comrades. 🙌🏻🤡
Amazing what happens when revenues start becoming an issue as well.
If I wanted spin, I’d ask my old crockety neighbor.
