GOP opponent floats salacious accusations at Matt Gaetz in wild campaign ad: ‘Is Gaetz the informant?’

A GOP primary opponent of ultra-MAGA U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) is implying that the incumbent might be the snitch that facilitated the unprecedented FBI raid at former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.

The lurid, 30-second ad from self-proclaimed America First Mark Lombardo, a businessman and combat veteran who served in the Vietnam War, contains several innuendos.

“When Donald Trump really endorses someone, he goes big. You’ve seen none of that for lying Matt Gaetz,” the voiceover claims. “What does Trump know? Is Gaetz the informant? Gaetz hired Jeffrey Epstein’s attorney. Another Epstein attorney approved the raid on Trump’s house. Remember, Gaetz pressured Trump to give him a pardon, but Trump said no.”

The narration concludes: “Gaetz puts himself first, ahead of Trump, and ahead of you. Vote for a leader who will put America first. Vote for Marine Mark Lombardo,” the narration concludes.

Watch/listen:

Primary day in Florida, during which Gaetz and Lombardo, and at least one other candidate, will be vying for the Republican nomination for the Pensacola-area seat, is August 23.

One of President Trump’s most vocal supporters in and outside Congress, as well as a high-profile Biden administration critic, Matt Gaetz has not been charged with any crimes despite underage sex trafficking allegations that have swirled around him. Gaetz has disavowed any wrongdoing.

The U.S. Department of Justice supposedly abides by a policy that rules out prosecutorial action in the time frame of 60-90 days before an election. All bets are off under the current, hyper-politicized administration, however, including the DOJ under Attorney General Merrick Garland, a so-called moderate whom Obama wanted to put on the Supreme Court.

Back in April 2021, moreover, President Trump denied that Gaetz sought a blanket pardon from his White House. “Congressman Matt Gaetz has never asked me for a pardon. It must also be remembered that he has totally denied the accusations against him,” Trump explained in a statement.

In a statement reacting to the Lombardo campaign ad, a spokesman for the Gaetz campaign told Business Insider that “President Trump’s son is campaigning for Congressman Gaetz in Pensacola on Monday. President Trump’s 2020 finance chair just released a video endorsing Gaetz. Mark Lombardo is busy trying to please Resistance Liberals with plays from the Lincoln Project playbook. Congressman Gaetz is fighting for Florida and the Trump agenda.”

Earlier this month, Lombardo told the same news outlet that “Trump or DeSantis have not endorsed Matt Gaetz. Have they in the past? Yes. Have they now? The answer is no. And the reason for that is that they can’t afford the branding issue. The branding issue of being associated with a pedophile.”

This claim prompted Gaetz to describe Lombardo as a liar.

From his personal, “Florida Man” Twitter account on Wednesday, Gaetz tweeted out a 30-second ad of his own in which both Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis praised him, with Trump noting that the congressman has his 100 percent endorsement.

Based on anonymous sources, Newsweek has asserted that the feds had a mole  at Mar-a-Lago who was providing details on the location of allegedly classified documents kept on the premises.

Like so many other “bombshells” from the corporate media since Trump entered politics, this anecdote could wind up being yet another planted story with no substance behind it.
