Trump states prior to being questioned by ‘racist’ NY attorney general he will plead 5th, explains why

In a week of witch hunts, former President Donald Trump reported to “racist” New York Attorney General Letitia James’ (D) office Wednesday for questioning regarding a financial investigation just two days after his Florida residence was raided by the FBI.

When Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida was beset by over 30 FBI agents executing a search warrant, the unprecedented nature of the raid and perception of political persecution led many to suggest President Joe Biden’s administration had turned the United States into a banana republic. The former commander-in-chief echoed that sentiment Tuesday night when he announced he would be complying with James’ subpoena.

“In New York City tonight,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Seeing racist N.Y.S. Attorney General tomorrow, for a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in U.S. history! My great company, and myself, are being attacked from all sides. Banana Republic!”

James had subpoenaed Trump and members of his family and company regarding allegations that the Trump Organization had misrepresented the value of assets and misled tax authorities and lenders, contending in court filings that the company “used fraudulent or misleading asset valuations to obtain a host of economic benefits, including loans, insurance coverage, and tax deductions,” according to The Hill.

However, Trump has remained adamant that he and his company have done nothing wrong and the AG who “openly campaigned on the policy of ‘Get and Destroy Trump'” is merely engaged in politically motivated attacks. He released a statement Wednesday morning attesting to the same and listing off the reasons why he would be pleading the Fifth during James’ questioning.

“Letitia James is a failed politician who has intentionally colluded with others to carry out this phony years-long crusade that has wasted countless taxpayer dollars, all in an effort to prop up her political career,” Trump wrote and added, “Criminals are running rampant, shooting, slashing, and hurting people on the sidewalks of New York, while she and her Office spend a big percentage of their time and money on their ‘Trump’ vendetta.”

“She even assured her supporters in an Election promise that, ‘we’re going to definitely sue him. We’re going to be a real pain in the ass. He’s going to know my name personally’, and she claimed I was an ‘illegitimate President,'” he continued.

To support those facts, the president’s son Eric Trump posted a video montage of James making those statements and captioned it, “As my father sits for deposition in front of the most corrupt Attorney General in the United States (Letitia James), I want to remind everyone exactly who this evil woman is…Everything you are seeing – it’s all a coordinated effort to stop what they know will happen in 24.”

The president went on to contend, “I did nothing wrong, which is why, after five years of looking, the Federal, State and local governments, together with the Fake News Media, have found nothing.”

Meanwhile, James’ office had said in May that the probe of Trump’s financials was nearly complete and the president’s deposition was one of a few remaining missing pieces to conclude whether or not legal action was necessary, as reported by the Daily Mail. Trump had been expected to appear for testimony in July, but the proceeding was delayed to account for the death of his ex-wife Ivana Trump.

“Accordingly,” Trump concluded, “under the advice of my counsel and for all of the above reasons, I declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution.”

Trump also offered an explanation of sorts on reasons a person may plead the Fifth.

“I once asked, ‘If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?’ Now I know the answer to that question,” he wrote. “When your family, your company, and all the people in your orbit have become the targets of an unfounded, politically motivated Witch Hunt supported by lawyers, prosecutors, and the Fake News Media, you have no choice. If there was any question in my mind, the raid of my home, Mar-a-Lago, on Monday by the FBI, just two days prior to this deposition, wiped out any uncertainty.”
