Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., thought it would be smart to commemorate the eighth anniversary of Michael Brown’s death, but her characterization of the event as a “murder” didn’t sit well with a lot of people.
Though it’s unlikely that Jayapal will be harshly fact-checked by the powers that be, it’s not hard to point out the factual inconsistencies between her tweet and how the actual case shook out.
“Today marks eight years since Michael Brown was murdered by police in Ferguson, MO. We need to honor Michael’s life with action,” she lamented. “Let’s keep fighting to dismantle white supremacy, so we can ensure racial justice for all.”

Social media was quick to point out that Brown’s case wasn’t a case of white supremacy, nor was it a murder:
Mike Brown reached into Officer Wilson’s patrol vehicle, struck Ofc Wilson and also pulled at his weapon even getting it out from the holster and he only let go when a round was fired through the vehicle’s door.

Obama’ s DOJ led by Eric Holder and the FBI said the shooting was justified, but let’s not let that stop you.

This type of juvenile and toxic nonsense is a disgrace to our country, Pramila. The fact you serve as an elected representative for our people is a global embarrassment.

Sweet guy, much missed. A Rosa Parks for this generation.

Except they determined he was attacking the officer. Hands up don’t shoot was a lie then and you are lying now.

I really hope Darren Wilson sues you

Disgusting that you’d blatantly lie like this about something so sensitive.

Not what happened.
And no, we don’t. Not even for one second do we no honor the life of a criminal who’s actions brought about his own demise.— Knuckle Supper Studios Comics KSSComics@Parler (@KSSComics) August 9, 2022
What is the world coming to when you can’t even violently attack a police officer anymore?
