Search at Mar-a-Lago ‘almost certainly connected’ to Jan 6th,’ says Dan Abrams: ‘This is a major escalation’

Short on hearsay, corporate media resorted to outright speculation veiled in reporting Tuesday to draw an as yet unwarranted connection between the FBI raid of former President Donald Trump’s home in Florida and their Jan. 6 investigations.

Where many networks simply bookended coverage of the raid with stories on the show trial to lead viewers to a conclusion, NewsNation’s Dan Abrams took a straight line to a seemingly unfounded assertion.

In addition to more than 30 agents flocking to Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida on Monday to execute a search warrant which many believed was associated with alleged classified documents being improperly stored there, Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) reported his cell phone was seized Tuesday.

“Perry is a critical player in the Jan. 6 investigation,” Abrams said as he opened his broadcast by connecting conspiratorial dots, “and was a vocal proponent of President Trump’s various claims of election fraud.”

“Based on the timing, that leads me to believe that the search at Mar-a-Lago was almost certainly connected to the broader effort to overturn the election,” he asserted, “and not just some record keeping violation, which is potentially far more serious for the former president.”

The five-term congressman had released a statement on the phone seizure which Abrams read in part: “This morning, while traveling with my family, 3 FBI agents visited me and seized my cell phone. They made no attempt to contact my lawyer, who would have made arrangements for them to have my phone if that was their wish. I’m outraged–though not surprised–that the FBI under the direction of Merrick Garland’s DOJ, would seize the phone of a sitting Member of Congress.”

The host left off the end of Perry’s statement, which Fox News reported, where the lawmaker explained what was on the device, “My phone contains info about my legislative and political activities, and personal/private discussions with my wife, family, constituents, and friends. None of this is the government’s business.”

Instead, Abrams moved forward with his opinions on the Representative’s connection to former Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Clark who had also had his home raided earlier this year by the DOJ in what he called a “highly politicized…nationwide effort,” where “multiple people were roughly simultaneously raided for their electronic devices.”

“I just think we’re living in an era that I don’t recognize and increasingly,” Clark told Fox News host Tucker Carlson, “I don’t recognize the country anymore with these Stasi-like things happening.”

Carlson had said that Clark merely called for an investigation into voter fraud surrounding the 2020 presidential election, and Perry was vocally in favor of such actions. Yet Abrams remained true to the Jan. 6 narrative that concerns of fraud were really efforts to overturn the election outcome.

“This is a major escalation but also provides a lot of context, in my mind. Because up to this point, all of the reporting had been that the search at Mar-a-Lago was connected to a document, and the suggestion was that it was related to record keeping. That the president had a classified document that he hadn’t turned over to the government,” he surmised.

“And I have been saying since yesterday, it is impossible to believe that that is really what the search was about. Today’s development with the seizing of Rep. Perry’s phone sure seems to point towards there being a connection between Mar-a-Lago and the effort to overturn the election investigation,” Abrams concluded.

Perry’s phone was imaged and returned, according to CNN, and a second warrant would be required to actually access the contents of the phone.
