Smug racial essentialist Jon Stewart has been accusing Republicans of spreading misinformation about a bill, the PACT Act, but the evidence provided by Sen. Ted Cruz and others proves that he’s the one who’s been pushing bull.
The bill would specifically provide healthcare services to veterans who were exposed to toxic burn pits while serving overseas. It was reportedly proposed in response to “Burn Pits: The Poisoning of America’s Soldiers,” a best-selling book written by military veteran Joseph Hickman.
But there’s a problem. After the bill initially passed with majority GOP support, Democrats corrupted it by inserting an accounting gimmick into it. This should come as no surprise given their history of pulling such tricks all the time, most recently with the exorbitant Build Back Better bill.
This is where Stewart enters the picture. As a far-left partisan, he believes the Democrat Party is infallible, and so when dozens of Republicans voted against the PACT Act this week because of the accounting gimmick — and because of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s refusal to adopt a amendment to remove the gimmick — he threw a temper tantrum via video:

According to Stewart, there is no gimmick in the bill. In fact, to hear him tell it, Democrats never insert phony gimmicks into bills.
Cruz responded with his own video in which he expressed support for the original PACT Act but politely argued that Democrats did in fact corrupt it with a gimmick. He even went so far as to explain how exactly the gimmick works.
“Jon, you’re a very funny guy, and I appreciate your engaging on issues of public policy. That’s a good thing. But if you’re going to do so, the facts matter. Listen … I voted for the PACT Act, and I’ve advocated for it for a long time. We have an obligation to take care of our veterans, particularly those who were wounded or injured from burn pits or in other ways from combat,” he said.
“The issue here is the Democrats included in this bill an accounting gimmick where they took 400 billion dollars of discretionary spending, they shifted it to mandatory spending. Didn’t change the amount at all. But the reason they did that is it created a hole for 400 billion in new discretionary spending. Their objective, they want to cram 400 billion dollars in unrelated spending onto this bill that has nothing to do with veterans. Now, given inflation that is skyrocketing, I think another 400 billion in spending is irresponsible.”
He concluded by revealing that Republicans had tried to fix the problem with an amendment written by Sen. Pat Toomey, but Democrats had predictably rejected it.
“We made very clear to the Democrats, to Chuck Schumer, that if they pass Pat’s Toomey’s amendment, and they just shifted the spending back to discretionary, kept it exactly at the same level but got rid of the hole for the unrelated pork, that this bill would have passed last week with an overwhelming margin. The Democrats decided not to. They wanted to play politics instead,” he said.
Listen:
.@jonstewart you’re wrong here. The bill gives a $400B blank check—separate from vets care—for unrelated pork that will supercharge inflation. I support the PACT Act & the $679.4B it would dedicate to vets. It’s ppl trying to use PACT to shovel more pork who are exploiting vets. pic.twitter.com/xdpRTSztmB
— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) July 30, 2022
But instead of acknowledging a single one of the senator’s points, Stewart responded with a smug, condescending, and rude rant on Twitter accusing Cruz and now even Jesse Watters of spreading misinformation about the PACT Act.
To hear him tell it, Democrats inserted no accounting gimmick into the PACT Act, and the only reason Republicans are preventing its passage in the Senate is because they’re evil, heartless, soulless monsters. Sounds like a reasonable argument.

Ah dearest Theodore. I do appreciate you and @JesseBWatters trying to rally the forces of misinformation to try and kill more vets…but not tonite sweetie. I’ll go slow cuz I know you only went to Princeton and Harvard… https://t.co/G56JYcy7o4

Show everyone where in the Pact Act is this 400 billion dollars blank check or unrelated spending that was added/snuck in…OR show section 805 c of the actual bill that explicitly states what the Toxic Exposure Fund can be used for. Next
— Jon Stewart (@jonstewart) July 30, 2022
Show everyone what was added/snuck into the Pact Act that YOU voted for on June 16, that made you change to No in July. Be specific. Or were you for the bill before you were against it Senator Kerry…I mean Cruz. Next
— Jon Stewart (@jonstewart) July 30, 2022
No one is playing politics with the Pact Act but you, Toomey and your band of merry monsters. Stop fucking around and pass the bill you already had passed. Thank you for coming to my TedCruz talk.
— Jon Stewart (@jonstewart) July 30, 2022
This isn’t a game. Real people’s lives hang in the balance…people that fought for your life. The PACT act you voted for, then inexplicably shot down is the same one Senators Tester and Moran posted online in MAY. Which you read cuz yer shmart.
— Jon Stewart (@jonstewart) July 30, 2022
There’s just a small problem. He’s wrong, period, and everybody sees it but partisans like him.
Joseph Hickman, the author of “Burn Pits,” certainly sees it:
I literally wrote the book on the burn pits. Jack is right, everyone would have voted for it, if the Dems didn’t add 400 billion dollars in additional spending to the bill that has nothing to do with the burn pits. It was a political move in an election year.
— Joseph Hickman (@JosephHickman0) July 30, 2022
So does Pat Toomey:
Apparently some of our Democratic colleagues care more about their $400 B future spending spree on matters completely unrelated to veterans—facilitated by what they snuck into the veterans burn pit legislation—than the programs and funding for veterans exposed to toxic chemicals.
— Senator Pat Toomey (@SenToomey) July 30, 2022
The PACT Act could have passed weeks ago if Democrats had dropped the spending boondoggle that is completely unrelated to veterans.
— Senator Pat Toomey (@SenToomey) July 30, 2022
Since they can’t bring themselves to abandon yet another needless, inflationary spending spree, here’s an idea: let the Senate vote on it.
— Senator Pat Toomey (@SenToomey) July 30, 2022
In June, Schumer promised amendment votes before reneging on that promise. Senator Tester is working in good faith to get this resolved. Let’s vote this week and find out where the majority of the Senate stands.
— Senator Pat Toomey (@SenToomey) July 30, 2022
And so does A. G. Hamilton, formerly of National Review:
Thread: This is why I hate politics these days.
Toomey supports the underlying bill. As do most R Senators. There was a line in the bill that changes discretionary spending to mandatory spending so it would not need to be reauthorized and could be spent for other purposes. https://t.co/mKr78IzPzq
— AG (@AGHamilton29) July 29, 2022
Schumer demanded a vote for cloture despite R’s pointing this out. This could be fixed in 10 minutes. And that’s likely exactly what will happen now. The day or two delay could save a lot of money in unrelated spending.
So why did Schumer hold the vote instead of fixing it?
— AG (@AGHamilton29) July 29, 2022
Because he knew news outlets would then report that Republicans blocked a bill to help Veterans despite the objection having nothing to do with the money allocated to help veterans. pic.twitter.com/Qp0wpFBL5l
— AG (@AGHamilton29) July 29, 2022
And he also then knew that clowns like @jonstewart, who pretend to care about this issue but not enough to find out what needs to be fixed to pass the bill, would go out and immediately smear those trying to do the right thing.
And that would be the narrative everyone ran with.
— AG (@AGHamilton29) July 29, 2022
So now while Toomey works to fix and pass the bill, Jon Stewart’s dumb rant where he pretends Toomey and others were trying to screw veterans by asking for a quick and necessary fix went viral. It did nothing to help Veterans, but at least Chuck Schumer got what he wanted.
— AG (@AGHamilton29) July 29, 2022
But remember, Jon Stewart, the funnyman “prick” who’s a proud racial essentialist and thinks the Supreme Court is the “Fox News of justice,” knows best …
