Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld spoke out against student loan debt forgiveness on Thursday’s “The Five,” calling the idea of one citizen paying for another citizen’s debt “disgusting.”
“You’re getting American taxpayers to pay for a gift that benefits Democrats who don’t need it,” he said. “This isn’t like welfare or unemployment or food stamps. It’s a gift that you and I pay that is given to upper-class white art history majors who can then spend that money they would’ve spent on the loan on holidays in the Hamptons.”
He wondered why so many feel that college is a necessity, especially given that a multitude of supposed institutions of higher learning are merely churning out leftist activists rather than skilled thinkers.
“Why send your kids to college, your loving kids to college when they return turning against you and biology. You’re actually ruining brains. All the people who paid off their student loans and they probably worked nights to do it, this is a slap in their face. This is like being at a restaurant and ordering your dessert and then eating it and paying for it and then suddenly they announce a pie eating contest.”
Gutfeld raised the logical point that if the debt is to be forgiven, it ought to come from the colleges and universities which already have received the funds.
“My solution is if you want to forgive that stupid debt, take it from the colleges since they’ve tripled the tuition the last 30 years and their education sucks. Do not take it with us because I swear to God you will see a real insurrection. You are actually stealing money. You are stealing money from people and giving it to people. This is redistribution, but it’s not even going to the poor. He’s actually taking money from people to bribe people to vote for him. This is a moral wrong. This is the worst thing.”
He went on to say, “Every time I think about this it makes me so angry. It’s actual theft. They think they can get away with it by saying ‘Oh, it’s only ten grand here. It’s only this. Oh, these students, they can’t afford it.’ They can afford it. If you can afford a car payment, you can afford your college payment. It’s roughly the same.”
Turning to the camera, Gutfeld declared, “It’s so disgusting. you make me sick.”
The host of of the hugely successful late night show “Gutfeld’ has railed against student loan forgiveness and those who advocate for it on more than one occasion in the past.
In April, he expressed in severe terms his take on the matter.
“There’s ways to gain experience in life, so you don’t end up six, seven figures in debt,” he noted. “And by the way, nobody’s paying for it. You’re paying for it. That’s something I would go to war for. Cancel debt? No, no, no, no, no. And everybody who paid their debts would be on my side,” Gutfeld argued.
And as far back as December 2021, the firebrand host directly addressed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and members of the so-called Squad while on “The Five.”
“You know what? Screw you! No one has to pay your damn debt! That’s on you! It is not a moral obligation on anybody for the decisions that you made.”
He continued, “You know what’s better? Why not do car loan debt…that’s more egalitarian. AOC probably doesn’t have a car in New York, right? She doesn’t need one, or she has a driver. I bet that driver has car loan debt. Why don’t we do car loan debt?…that’s more for the working class than for these overeducated, overcaffeinated idiots,” he asserted.
“Notice how AOC, though, she structures her argument this way: I have debt, so we have to fix my debt problem. Oh, I’m convinced. Where do I cut the check, AOC? I was just about to pay some charity to help kids with cancer…” he fulminated at the time.
