Biden’s new Title IX rule could spell the end of sex-segregated college dorms

One of the creepiest and most depressing aspects of living under a leftist totalitarian nanny state is the government’s relentless obsession with the sexual behavior of its citizens—and nowhere is this more evident than in the Biden administration’s proposed reforms to Title IX.

Under the guise of “expanding protections” for LBTQ students, the proposed new Title IX rule by Biden’s Department of Education is designed to compel colleges to treat students according to their gender identity rather than their biological sex. And, as Angela Morabito—a spokeswoman for the Defense of Freedom Institute—argues in an opinion piece for Fox News, that means that female students could soon be forced to live with biological men who identify as women.

The whole thing’s a mess, as it’s doubtless intended to be in order to sow maximum chaos throughout society, and it’s a situation that’s likely to create a host of new problems.

“A biological man who began identifying as a woman at age 13 could be treated the same as a biological man who began identifying as a woman an hour ago,” Morabito writes in her piece. “Both could be allowed to room with a woman who has no say in the matter, nor could the school be obligated to alert her in any way that her roommate is not, in fact, biologically female.”

Lest anyone think that schools might be able to override the decision and simply refuse to pair men who identify as women with female coeds in dorm rooms, that would be a recipe for disaster as the school would shortly be subject to the full legal firepower of the federal government.

“Any school that dared put facts over feelings would be vulnerable to Title IX investigations,” Morabito continues, “and even potentially losing its federal funding. Any student who dared object to living with someone of the opposite sex could be slapped with a Title IX complaint as well.”

Morabito also explains that the new Title IX rule change would virtually eliminate the possibility of having sex-segregated dorm rooms since the very word “sex” would be stripped of any meaning.

“The Department of Education claims that Title IX’s prohibition on sex discrimination includes discrimination on the basis of gender identity. The proposed rule claims to respect existing law that allows colleges to maintain sex-segregated housing facilities, but there’s a catch: The proposed rule redefines ‘sex’ to include gender identity. If the word ‘sex’ is robbed of its meaning, so is the word ‘sex-segregated.’ In short, colleges could have nominally male and female dorms, but the definition of male and female would be identity-based, not biology-based.

“The cruel irony here is that schools are obligated under Title IX to address threats of sexual harassment and assault…Now, the Biden administration’s proposed rule, which was announced on June 23rd, would turn Title IX into a political cudgel rather than a civil rights milestone.”

As Morabito observes, if the intention of Title IX was to make female college students feel safer, the proposed rule change pretty much throws that out the window. Ideally, female students would be able to choose whether they’re comfortable with a biologically male roommate—but such a choice includes the option of refusal, which is intolerable bigotry in the leftist worldview, and therefore unacceptable.

“At the core of this problem is a fundamental disagreement about the relationship between men and women,” Morabito concludes. “In the leftist worldview, any woman who would prefer not to dorm with a biological man is a bigot. Any woman who dares to ask the question about who she’s living with is a transphobe.”

And that’s why sex-segregated college dorm rooms may be about to become a thing of the past.
