Mystery grows as body of missing Texas mom goes unnoticed for a week in abandoned car

The mystery grows in Texas after the body of Christina “Chrissy” Powell was discovered decomposing in the passenger seat of her car. The car had sat unnoticed in a strip mall parking lot for a whole week—further deepening the mystery of the Texas mother’s strange disappearance and death.

Powell, 39, a paralegal and mother of two children, was last seen in chilling Ring camera footage on July 5. The footage shows her hurrying from her home, her purse in tow, but—inexplicably—she left without her phone or her medications.

Her disappearance prompted her family and friends to desperately search for her whereabouts — but that search has now come to an end, with the San Antonio Police Department announcing that her body had been found in her car, which was parked near the Salt Grass Steakhouse in the Huebner Oaks shopping plaza.

The horrible discovery was made when a security guard at the shopping plaza grew suspicious over the fact that the car had been parked there for a week; as he approached to investigate the car, he noticed a “foul odor” emanating from it.

But the discovery of Powell’s body has only further mystified her family. For one thing, no one can account for where she was during the first two weeks of her absence; and why was the car not reported earlier? Most importantly, the family wants to know how she died.

A further mystery is why Powell was found in the passenger seat of the car. And although the San Antonio Police Department has little more to offer in the way of answers, police sources told the DailyMail that they are inclined to believe Powell’s death was an instance of suicide, based on the lack of trauma observed on her body.

“It could be any number of things—carbon monoxide, heat exhaustion, medication…we don’t know until we get the medical examiner’s report back,” said a source familiar with the investigation. Although the Bexar County Medical Examiner has performed an autopsy in the case, the results have yet to be released—and likely won’t be released for another six months, which may further delay the police investigation into what happened to Chrissy Powell.

For the time being, however, there is no suggestion that foul play was involved. Early in the investigation, police cleared Powell’s ex, Chris Cady, who is the father of her three-year-old son, as well as another ex, the father of her 12-year-old.

Powell’s sister, when announcing her death on Facebook, acknowledged that she had mental health problems.

“Hold on to and hug your loved ones extra tight,” she said. “Check on those friends who are going through hard times.”
