JonBenet Ramsey’s family recruits ‘premier’ DNA lab that could solve cold case in hours, researcher says

JonBenet Ramsey’s half-brother and father have engaged an independent agency to conduct DNA testing that could solve her 1996 murder within hours after a leading genetic investigator claimed she’s confident her team can help.

“Hi – @GovofCO. #Parabon and @CeCeLMoore is the premier shop in the world to successfully hunt #childkillers,” John Andrew Ramsey tweeted on Monday. “Let’s get to work! #jonbenet #boulderco.”

Virginia-based Parabon NanoLabs has a history of utilizing complicated and innovative genetic genealogy research techniques to crack cold cases.

CeCe Moore is Parabon’s chief genetic genealogist. She gave an interview on “60 Minutes” Australia Sunday and claimed that it could take as little as a few hours to identify DNA collected at the crime scene in 1996.

“So, it’s like a big puzzle. We have to put all the puzzle pieces back together, little by little by little. What I’m doing all day long is building the family trees of these individuals that are sharing DNA with this unknown suspect,” Moore remarked during the interview.

“There are people all over the world that want her killer brought to justice, who want to know what happened and who want the answers,” Moore commented during the interview. “[But] I can’t solve it if I don’t have access to the DNA.”

JonBenét’s father, John Ramsey, also spoke about the effort to find his daughter’s killer in an interview with “60 Minutes” Australia.

“We want to do whatever can be done technically and resource-wise to find the killer of our daughter and if we do that and we can’t, then we will have to live with it. But to not do it is criminal and negligent and lazy,” John Ramsey asserted.

A Change.org petition has been circulated by the family calling on Gov. Polis to supersede the police in certain aspects of the case because they have refused to conduct DNA analysis on some of the evidence. That evidence remains untested 25 years after the crime took place. So far, almost 12,000 people have signed the petition.

Parabon recently helped crack a vicious cold case murder from 1975 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Lancaster District Attorney Heather Adams announced charges were being filed against David Sinopoli, 68, in connection to the murder of Lindy Sue Beichler after police collected DNA from a discarded coffee cup at the Philadelphia International Airport. That DNA was enough to nail Sinopoli for the crime.

Beichler was only 19 when she was killed. Her aunt and uncle found her stabbed to death in the apartment she shared with her husband. He was ruled out as a suspect early on.

The government’s Combined DNA Index System failed to produce a match to the crime scene DNA. Enter Parabon who solved the crime quickly and efficiently.

By testing DNA found in semen in Beichler’s panties, Moore was able to generate a “high-tech tip” that led police to her rapist and killer. He had not even been a suspect. The find was announced at a press conference.

The investigative team traced the crime scene DNA sample’s ancestry to a specific region of Italy. Then they delved into which families had emigrated from there to the Lancaster County area, according to Moore.

From there, the team determined which of those families had males who were the right age. Investigators also uncovered that Sinopoli had lived in the same apartment complex as Beichler around the time she was killed.

Sinopoli was arrested on July 17. It took 46 years and DNA technology to bring him down.

“This arrest would not have been possible without the assistance of CeCe Moore and Parabon NanoLabs,” the Lancaster DA stated the following day. “We are incredibly grateful for the work that they do and their commitment to securing justice for victims and their loved ones.”

The Ramseys are hoping and praying that Parabon NanoLabs can do the same for JonBenet and finally get justice for her murder after all these years.
