‘SO P*SSED OFF we could not play’: Kid Rock fans in ND trash venue after concert canceled

Kid Rock may have been “p*ssed” when his performance at the North Dakota State Fair was canceled Friday night, but he wasn’t the only one and his fans made their displeasure known in some rather unsavory ways.

The “Bad Reputation” tour was nearing its halfway mark Friday in Minot, ND at the North Dakota State Fair (NDSF) with 18,000 fans eager to see the rocker born Robert James Ritchie perform some of his unapologetically patriotic tunes. However, after watching the opening act Night Ranger play for about two and a half hours, according to TMZ, concertgoers were left in suspense for another hour and a half only to have a Ward County Sheriff come out to deliver the bad news around 11 p.m.

Evidently, concerns of severe weather that ultimately cleared without ado led to the show’s plug getting pulled and after plenty of imbibed waiting time, some attendees were less than willing to leave quietly. Displeased fans hurled cans and bottles toward the cleanup crew packing up the equipment and one individual even stormed the stage only to be immediately tackled and handcuffed by security.

Warning: Language

Kid Rock took to Twitter to express his frustration with the decision and asked that fans “take care of each other” as they leave. “SO P*SSED OFF we could not play for a sold out crowd tonight in Minot, ND (because of high winds) – I know it sucks but none of us can control mother nature. Please be safe leaving and take care of each other. -Kid Rock”

What wasn’t immediately clear was who had made the decision to cancel the performance and no party seemed willing to take responsibility for the decision.

On their Facebook account, the Ward County Sheriffs Department explained, “The Sheriff’s Department would like to clarify to tonight’s concert fans that the decision to cancel the Kid Rock concert was not made by the Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff simply announced the cancellation. We did not cancel the show.”

Meanwhile, NDSF issued a statement of their own informing attendees that they would be getting a refund for the concert. “Due to the safety concerns of the high winds, lightning, and severe weather in the area, the Kid Rock concert had to be canceled. The North Dakota State Fair will be issuing refunds to all ticket purchasers.”

Fans were still mixed as to whether the cancelation was justified as on scene reports expressed there were no winds to speak of.

However, another social media user shared an image of the “supercell” that was being tracked.

Some even tried to salvage Kid Rock’s reputation by pointing out that he likely wasn’t the one to make the call on whether or not to proceed with the show.

What is known is that the Ward County Sheriffs had expected some trouble ahead of the event as they made sure to remind concert goers of their expectations earlier Friday with a reference laden “Tip of the Day!”

“‘We the People’ have been waiting ‘all summer long’ for the NDSF and although we were all ‘born free’, we would like to remind attendees that there are some rules that must be followed before you start to party like a ‘cowboy’. For instance, if you’re thinking about being a ‘rebel soul’ or and ‘American Bada**’, there is a good chance you might have your ‘picture’ taken at the Ward County Jail. Also, ‘only god knows why’ you would want to ‘bawitaba’ (sounds illegal right?) too hard because our jail transport van might be ‘so h0tt’. Please drink responsibly because we don’t want to have to call your ‘sugar pie honey bunch’ to come and get you and your ‘bad reputation’. Tonight you will have to decide if you are going to be a ‘Sister Christian’ or a ‘Devil without a cause’, either way hydrate, have fun and be safe!”
