Republican states push back at Dem mayors whining about migrant surge

Republican states are pushing back against Democrat mayors who have called for federal help to deal with the surge of illegal immigrants who have been relocated to their cities where they are overwhelming social services and packing homeless shelters.

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser went on CBS’ “Face The Nation” on Sunday morning where she whined that the influx of migrants who are being bused to the nation’s capital by Texas and Arizona are straining local resources, claiming that they have been getting “tricked” into getting onto buses that have transported them from the border states to the jewel on the Potomac.

“Well, this is a very significant issue. We have for sure called on the federal government to work across state lines to prevent people from really being tricked into getting on buses,” she said. “We think they’re largely asylum seekers who are going to final destinations that are not Washington, D.C.”

Also griping about having to accept those who are only here because of the open borders policies of their party’s president was New York City Mayor Eric Adams who lashed out a Republican Governors Doug Ducey of Arizona and Greg Abbott of Texas whom he called “cowards” at a Tuesday news conference.

“Our country is home of the free, land of the brave,” Adams told reporters at City Hall. “We do not become cowards and send people away who are looking for help.”

However, many of the migrants arriving in the state are largely being sent there by the Biden administration and not the border states, something that Adams himself acknowledged in a statement.

“In some instances, families are arriving on buses sent by the Texas and Arizona governments, while in other cases, it appears that individuals are being sent by the federal government,” said Hizzoner who now has a plan to start housing migrants in hotels which he is asking President Biden for taxpayer cash to help fund.

Gov. Ducey fired back at Adams in a blistering statement posted to Twitter.

“Mayor Adams needs to get his facts straight and pay closer attention to what’s really occurring because our nation’s security depends on it. The State of Arizona is providing voluntary transportation for asylum seekers only to Washington, D.C., not NY,” he wrote.

“President Biden created the crisis at the border — he’s failed to respond to calls for action and refuses to even visit the border, so we’re bringing the issue a little closer to home for him,” he correctly pointed out where the fault lies.

“The President’s policies have placed overwhelming burdens on Arizona communities. It’s convenient that these liberal mayors are finally speaking up on this humanitarian crisis once it affects their communities, even though our program does not charter to New York City,” Ducey added.

A spokesperson for Gov. Abbott slammed the mayors, placing the blame squarely on Biden while confirming that Texas has bused 5,200 illegals to Washington D.C. but not to New York City.

“If these Democrat mayors are now that concerned about having migrants in their cities, they should call on President Biden to do his job and secure the border, instead of attacking Texas with baseless political accusations,” said Renae Eze in a statement.

“Our border communities are being overrun and overwhelmed as President Biden’s open border policies encourage record-high illegal crossings and deadly drugs like fentanyl to flood into our state, and Texas is utilizing every strategy to help our local partners,” she added. “Every American community is a border community until President Biden secures our southern border.”

“The mere fact that they sent people out of their states, people who were seeking refuge in our country, then sent them away — did they deny that?” Adams said on Thursday, backing off his claims that the red states are busing in the migrants. “They ended up here because they didn’t get the support there.”

Asked by Fox News Digital whether Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was sympathetic to concerns expressed by Bowser and Adams, spox Christina Pushaw said, “We’re sympathetic to the concerns of all Americans who are suffering due to Bidenflation, housing shortages, and failing public schools that are further strained by uncontrolled illegal migration.”

“This is a direct result of President Biden’s open-border agenda, which most liberal politicians (including the Mayor of NYC) have vocally supported,” she added. “In other words, we feel for the innocent citizens harmed by the Biden Border Crisis, but we have zero sympathy for the politicians who created it and now complain about the predictable results.”
