Jittery Dems could mount primary challenge to stubborn Biden in 2024. Here’s the short list, so far.

The deepening unpopularity of President Joe Biden, along with the flailing leader’s continuing insistence that he plans to run for reelection in 2024, has led to whispers that Democrats could do the unthinkable by mounting a primary challenge against their own incumbent candidate.

With most analysts predicting a voter backlash against the cantankerous Biden and his disastrous policies that will cost his party control of one if not both chambers of Congress in this year’s midterm elections, the greater focus is on retaining the White House which is highly unlikely with near-record gas prices, the worst inflation in four decades and a looming recession with no solutions being offered by the “adults” in charge.

According to a bombshell report from The Hill, Democrat political analysts who are dialed in and have their fingers on the pulse of their party are predicting that if Biden does not voluntarily decline to run again, he will face a battle for the nomination.

Norman Solomon, a former Bernie Sanders delegate and founder of the progressive RootsAction activist network told the outlet, “Unless Biden comes to his senses and announces that he won’t run again, a contentious battle for the nomination seems very likely.”

“The president may not realize or care that the trajectory of his policies has been taking him farther and farther from the Democratic Party base, but his distance from that base would likely be catastrophic for Biden if he tries to get nominated again,” Solomon said.

Biden has been facing increasing grumbling from the party’s left-wing activist base which continues to demand that he “do something” after the Supreme Court aborted Roe v. Wade, neutered the EPA on climate change, and shot down an unconstitutional New York gun law. And the griping may soon turn into an outright revolt against the 79-year-old president.

“The tone-deaf and self-centered thing for him to do would be to soldier on – insisting that he should be president until January 2029 – while damaging the party’s prospects in the process,” Solomon added.

Discontent with Biden is mounting and even the media is starting to turn against him with The New York Times recently reporting that the elderly leader’s struggles have become an “uncomfortable issue” with Biden’s party.

The nation’s “newspaper of record” also published a midterm election cycle poll that shows a deepening feeling among Americans that the nation is on the wrong track under Biden and that over 60 percent of Democrats are eager to see Biden shuffle into retirement in favor of a younger, more competent alternative.

“I don’t think it’s a given frankly that he would win the primary,” progressive Dem strategist Steve Phillips told The Hill. “I don’t think a primary and or its outcome is cataclysmic.”

“He could win, but he might not,” he added.

The outlet notes that primary challenges to incumbent presidents are very rare, with the last being Pat Buchanan’s challenge to George H.W. Bush in 1992, also Sen. Ted Kennedy’s 1980 bid to topple President Jimmy Carter, the last Democrat leader to run the country into the economic rocks.

Potential challengers to Biden could include governors J.B. Pritzker of Illinois and Gavin Newsom of California with Transportation Secretary and former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg looking like possibilities along with failed Democrat presidential candidates Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, according to The Hill.

“It’s a much broader question than Biden,” Phillips told the outlet about the 2024 political landscape. “It’s a question of what’s happening in the country and what is the fight within this country, and then who’s best positioned to lead that.”

One name that is unlikely to be mentioned is Kamala Harris, the cackling, bumbling VP who is even more disliked than her boss.
