Conservative journo who dared question 10-yr-old rape story fires back at haters: I’m glad he was arrested

Megan Fox, a writer for the website PJ Media who independently investigated the media response to a story of a 10-year-old being raped, announced that she is “glad someone was arrested for the crime.”

The pronouncement came in response to a Twitter troll who told her to “delete your account” because she had dared to question the “shoddy reporting” surrounding the case. The heinous nature of the crime coupled with seemingly zero legal action to capture a suspected child rapist, set off alarm bells for many, including Fox who refuses to feel bad for doing her due diligence.

“I should delete my account for exposing that no media was looking for a rapist and was only interested in political weaponization of child rape?” she replied. “Would this arrest have happened if no one asked questions about the shoddy reporting of this heinous act? I’m glad someone was arrested.”

The story was widely repeated in left-wing circles as a perfect, and very timely, illustration of why the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade was the wrong move by the Supreme court. Even President Joe Biden, a man who is certainly no stranger to stretching the truth when it suits him, spread the story from the presidential bully pulpit.

But Fox, along with other conservative writers, questioned the truthfulness of the tale, which seemed altogether too perfect as a Democratic talking point. And there were a number of details that were suspicious, to say the least. For one thing, the only source for the story was an obstetrician-gynecologist, who also happened to be an abortion activist; and there were few details and no indication of a criminal investigation.

“What else strikes you as suspicious,” Jesse Watters asked Fox when she appeared on his program earlier this week, “is it the journalist herself, that doesn’t want to talk about this? I mean this is, you win prizes over reporting like this—this is a major story that the president talked about, the vice president, this was used politically, this kind of made everybody’s heart break in the country when they heard about this, and now you don’t want to talk about the biggest story your paper may have ever published?”

“Yeah, that’s a huge red flag,” Fox replied. “Look, I detailed ten red flags about this story in a tweet and then I reported it on PJmedia.com. And no one has responded. No one has called me to say you’re wrong.”

In a random act of journalism, the Columbus Dispatch reported that a “Columbus man” named Gerson Fuentes was charged with raping and impregnating the girl, who was likely only nine at the time of the assault. The Dispatch then takes great glee in shaming conservatives and Republicans, including Ohio’s attorney general Dave Yost, for being so mean-spirited and contemptible as to doubt the veracity of a story repeated by the likes of Biden.

Left-wing outlet Rolling Stone published the headline “Conservatives Called an Ohio Rape Case Fake News: Now an Arrest Has Been Made,” making creative use of the passive tense. The liberal news aggregator Mediaite even referred to the suspect as “a 27-year-old man,” and refused to add any further descriptors.

All of these outlets left out the salient point: we now know that Gerson Fuentes, the 27-year-old “Columbus man” who raped and impregnated the child, is an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, according to Fox News, which learned of it from an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) source.
