‘LATINX YOU BIGOT’: Jill Biden’s weak apology for taco insult fails to quell anger and mockery

First lady Jill Biden issued a lame apology on Tuesday via Press Secretary Michael LaRosa for insulting Latinos comparing them to “breakfast tacos” at a conference titled “Latinx IncluXion Luncheon,” in San Antonio, Texas.

The First Lady flew to San Antonio on Monday to address the annual conference of UnidosUS, a Latino civil rights and advocacy group formerly known as the National Council of La Raza, in a speech.

Many considered Jill Biden’s original statement at the 2022 UnidosUS Annual Conference insulting and racist as she even butchered the word ‘bodega’, “Raul helped build this organization with the understanding that the diversity of this community, as distinct as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the blossoms of Miami, and as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio, is your strength.”

LaRosa tweeted out the weak mea culpa by Biden a day after her misstep which mollified few, “The First Lady apologizes that her words conveyed anything but pure admiration and love for the Latino community.”

Many Twitter users found the seemingly sudden use of the non-PC term “Latino” curious to say the least:

Earlier Hispanic conservatives nailed Biden for the comments using “Latino” in their response. Perhaps, that had something to do with FLOTUS’ change of tune?

“NAHJ encourages @FLOTUS & her communications team to take time to better understand the complexities of our people & communities. We are not tacos. Our heritage as Latinos is shaped by various diasporas, cultures & food traditions. Do not reduce us to stereotypes,” the organization tweeted.

Needless to say, Biden’s second-hand ‘apology’ did little to quell the ridicule that continued to pour in on “Taco Tuesday.”

Florida Senator Marco Rubio responded by changing his Twitter profile picture to an image of a taco, simply tweeting, “#NewProfilePic.”

And the hits kept coming:

“I’m sorry Michael that they had you tweet this out today,” Steve Guest, who is the communications adviser for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) tweeted.

“Don’t you mean Latinx?????” Abigail Marone, who is Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley’s press secretary, snarked.

And the hits just kept on coming on Taco Tuesday:
