Fallout after Jill Biden calls Hispanics ‘breakfast tacos,’ butchers pronunciation of ‘bodega’

First Lady Jill Biden made a notably racist blunder on Monday during a speech given in San Antonio, where she not only mispronounced “bodega,” she also insulted Latinos saying they are as “unique” as “breakfast tacos.”

Biden was giving a speech at the progressive 2022 UnidosUS Annual Conference, formerly known as the National Council of La Raza, titled “Siempre Adelante: Our Quest for Equity” when she made the odd and offensive comment that quickly drew ire from conservatives and Latinos. She was attempting to praise the work of UnidosUS President Raul Yzaguirre, who received the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Thursday when she made the blunder leaving many to wonder exactly who writes her speeches.

“Raul helped build this organization with the understanding that the diversity of this community, as distinct as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the blossoms of Miami, and as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio, is your strength,” she smilingly proclaimed as the room went dead quiet.

A video of the unfortunate and telling comment was shared by Jorge Bonilla of the conservative Media Research Center. It instantly went viral, racking up more than 1.1 million views, “Once again, Dr. Jill Biden butchers the Spanish language in furtherance of pandering to a client constituency (the org FKA National Council of La Raza). I hereby bless your timelines with Dr. Jill’s rendering of ‘bodega’.”

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) blasted the comment.

“NAHJ encourages @FLOTUS & her communications team to take time to better understand the complexities of our people & communities. We are not tacos. Our heritage as Latinos is shaped by various diasporas, cultures & food traditions. Do not reduce us to stereotypes,” the organization tweeted.

According to KENS, the event is the largest gathering of Hispanic advocates out there making the blunder even more egregious. The Hispanic community has increasingly turned away from Democrats over a variety of issues and Biden’s misstep has potentially alienated them even further.

“Each year the UnidosUS Annual Conference is the premier event devoted to the diverse Hispanic community that is moving our country forward,” the conference declares on its website.

Republican Mayra Flores won a special election in Texas for the 34th Congressional District in June. She is one of a number of Hispanics who are surging in the Republican Party. The Latina snagged a seat that Democrats have held for more than a century in a development that portends very bad things for the Democratic Party, not just in Texas, but nationwide.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio was also apparently offended by Jill Biden’s comment. He responded by changing his Twitter profile picture to an image of a taco, simply tweeting, “#NewProfilePic.”

Janet Murguía, who is a Republican candidate for Texas’ densely Hispanic 28th District, thanked Biden “for clarifying that Democrats think Hispanics are ‘unique’ like tacos.”

“Maybe if we rebrand the Southern Border as SouXern BorderX, Joe Biden will finally visit?” she stated in a blistering second tweet.

“No wonder Hispanics are fleeing the Democratic Party!” Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) wrote on Twitter.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ spokeswoman Christina Pushaw nailed it, “Imagine the regime media meltdown if a conservative called Hispanics ‘breakfast tacos’ like Dr. Jill Biden did at the Latinx Luncheon today. Democringe.”
