Seven Philly teens laugh as they brutally beat 73-year-old man to death with traffic cone

Seven Philadelphia teenagers videoed themselves following and then hitting an unsuspecting 73-year-old man from behind with a traffic cone, beating him to death with it while laughing in the street.

The sickening murder occurred on June 24 according to police. James Lambert was walking home on Cecil B. Moore Avenue near North 21st Street at approximately 2:38 a.m. when the teens came up behind him and ambushed their victim, according to NBC 10. He probably never saw it coming.

Police released the video taken from security cameras on a street in northern Philadelphia on Friday. It disturbingly shows Lambert, who is blurred out, trying to walk away from the pack of black teens which was comprised of four boys and three girls. They followed him across the street before one of the boys struck the elderly man from behind with a large traffic cone.

Lambert was knocked to the ground by the attack. One of the girls in the gang of teens then picked up the cone and hit him with it again while the assault was recorded on a cellphone by another group member.

In the video, Lambert is reportedly seen getting up and running down the sidewalk away from his attackers. The same girl then grabs the cone and chases him. She threw it at the victim again while the other teens smiled and laughed over the brutal assault.

One girl in the group appeared to have at least a little conscience regarding the attack. She held her hands over her mouth in horror after she watched the man being hit by the cone.

The video footage shows the teens leaving after the attack. One boy was grinning as he left on a scooter with another boy.

Separate security cameras recorded the group following the attack. In those videos, one boy appears to make fun of the way Lambert fell during the alleged assault.

Lambert was taken to a nearby hospital where he passed away the next day from his injuries, according to police.

“The teens struck the victim several times with objects, knocking the victim to the ground causing injuries to his head,” police stated in a post. “The victim was transported to the hospital where he died of his injuries the following day.”

As of Friday, none of the teens who attacked the man resulting in his death have been arrested. They are suspected of having been involved in similar attacks.

The Philadelphia Police Department is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. Police didn’t give exact descriptions of any of the teens involved, except to point out a blonde patch of hair on one of them which should make him easily identifiable.

Police are asking anyone who knows or has seen the teens to call 911 immediately. Anyone with information about the attack is asked to submit tips by phone, which can be kept anonymous by texting 215-686-8477, or by reporting them online.

The parents of the teenagers are being asked to do the right thing and turn in their children for this heinous act.

So far, there have been 280 homicides in the City of Brotherly Love in 2022 according to police data.
