NYC bodega owner attacked over bag of chips jailed for murder over stabbing caught on video

A clash over chips late Friday night reportedly has led to a murder charge against a Manhattan bodega owner in an alleged fatal stabbing incident caught on surveillance video.

In the tragic encounter in the Harlem vicinity, a female customer allegedly got into an argument with the owner of the convenience store (who is alternatively described by some media outlets as a store worker,) over a bag of snack food that she purportedly lacked enough cash to purchase.

A male friend that she allegedly alerted after she exited the bodega returned to the establishment and confronted the owner behind the counter.

“The customer appears to yell at the store clerk, before shoving him into a shelf, the clip shows. After several moments, the worker reaches to the right, toward shelves displaying candy. He pulls out a large knife and plunges it into the younger man’s neck and chest — which quickly becomes covered in blood, the footage shows. The pair fall away from the camera view as blood begins to splatter on the man’s T-shirt — with the clerk then coming back into focus still holding the bloody knife,” the  New York Post reported.

First responders rushed the victim, who was in his 30s, to a nearby hospital where he was tragically pronounced dead.

After he was questioned, NYPD officers arrested the owner, age 51, and charged him with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He is due back in court on Thursday. As of Tuesday, he was reportedly detained at the Riker’s Island jail subject to bail of $250,000.

According to NBC New York, cops originally considered that the suspect acted in self-defense.

The stabbing investigation is ongoing — all suspects are presumed innocent until or unless they are convicted in a court of law of any alleged crimes.

Recall that nightlife-loving Eric Adams, a former NYPD captain, was elected mayor in November 2021 primarily on a law-and-order platform.

So far, however, Adams seems perhaps to be more interested in pursuing a celebrity lifestyle, advocating for woke issues, or positioning himself to run for president rather than effectively stopping rampant street violence.

A June poll claimed that the job approval rating for the out-on-the-town politician had collapsed to just 29 percent.

“As of June 26, major crimes across the five boroughs were up 37.8% this year compared to the same period in 2021, with robberies rising an even higher 39.4%, according to official NYPD CompStat data,” the Post separately reported on Tuesday.

The lawlessness comes at a time when disillusioned cops are retiring (or transferring out) in droves, and perhaps as a result, the NYPD has allegedly watered down police academy physical fitness standards for new recruits.
