Robert Crimo III, who experts believe may have had training, allegedly took to a rooftop in Highland Park, Illinois with a rifle, murdering six people and injuring over 30 more during a Fourth of July parade on Monday.

Dramatic footage has surfaced showing police officers taking Crimo down hours after the slaughter occurred in a residential area some 25 miles north of Chicago. His gray Honda was stopped at an intersection by numerous police officers who ordered him to exit the vehicle. Tre Ward of ABC7 Chicago posted the video showing the shooter eventually complying with the officers’ orders.

According to Mediaite, as Crimo was ordered to get on the ground and was arrested, a man’s voice can be heard saying, “Shoot that loser in the f*cking head!” It is unknown if an officer or a bystander made the comment.

The alleged gunman is 22 years old and was known to police. He was a person of interest two hours before he was taken into custody. Crimo allegedly used a ladder to get up on the roof of a building where he fired dozens of shots down into the parade in rapid-fire succession. The shooting was called “very random” and “very intentional” by a sergeant on the Lake County Major Crime Task Force. Some claim he was deliberately picking off children in the crowd according to the Daily Mail.

“The parade was suddenly halted when shots were fired about 10 minutes after it began, sending hundreds of people running for safety, the Chicago Sun-Times reported,” according to Reuters, which also noted that some 25 gunshots were heard during the carnage.

“It sounded like fireworks going off,” retired doctor Richard Kaufman remarked to Reuters. He was standing across the street from where the gunman opened fire and added that he heard approximately 200 shots.

“It was pandemonium,” he noted. “People were covered in blood tripping over each other.”

Steve Rogers, who is a former member of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, commented that Crimo appeared to have been trained.

“When an individual is said to have gone into a sniper position, he somehow either has some training or, as was said earlier, a lot of these younger people look at these video games and believe it or not, they get these ideas on how to do something like this,” Rogers posited.

Crimo is also known as “Awake the Rapper,” who is a “six-foot Hip hop phenom” born on Sept. 20, 2000, according to his bio on IMDB.

His father is Bob Crimo, who is president at Bob’s Pantry & Deli in Highland Park. According to Crimo’s Facebook account, his father ran for Highland Park mayor in 2020.

Crimo released a track called “Are You Awake” on Oct. 15, 2021, according to Fox News. It seems to suggest that he was planning to do something unthinkable. The video includes drawings of a man aiming a rifle at someone. It also includes an image of a newspaper clipping reporting on Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated President John F. Kennedy, and another image of a victim shot with blood spraying everywhere.

“Like a sleepwalker, I am unable to stop and think,” he states on the track. “My actions will be valiant and my thought is unnecessary. I know what I have to do, I know what’s in it, not only for me, but for everyone else.”

“There is no past or future, just the now,” he continues. “It is more abstract than I can ever imagine. I can feel the atmosphere pushing me in. It’s unstoppable, like a wave pulling me under, I can’t breathe without it.”

“I need to leave now, I need to just do it. It is my destiny, everything has led up to this,” Crimo declares. “Nothing can stop me, not even myself. Is there such thing as free will, or has this been planned out, like a cosmic recipe?”

“It is what I’ve been waiting for in the back of my head, ready to be awakened, It is what I’ve been sent here to do, like a sleepwalker,” he states.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) compared the weaponry used in the shooting to the combat she saw in Iraq at a press conference following the shooting.

“Today, we have seen that we can’t just stop there,” she asserted. “We have to do more to keep our community safe. We have to get rid of assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, and so many other additional commonsense reforms that wide majorities of Americans are crying out for.”

“I just listened to the sound of that gunfire from one of the videos that was captured,” Duckworth said. “And let me tell you that the last time I heard a weapon with that capacity firing that rapidly on a Fourth of July was Iraq. It was not the United States of America. We can and we should and we will do better.”

Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-Ill.) declared he is “furious” over the mass shootings that have occurred across the country echoing the mounting calls by Democrats demanding gun control in the United States.

“This madness must stop,” he proclaimed.

Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.), who represents Highland Park, also chimed in on Twitter, taking full advantage of the atrocity, “Hearing of loss of life and others injured. My condolences to the family and loved ones; my prayers for the injured and for my community. Enough is enough!”

Disturbing video of the shooting is all over social media.
