‘Furious’ Illinois Dems rally for gun control following parade shooting: ‘We have to get rid of assault weapons’

Following the horrific slaughter at the Highland Park Fourth of July parade, Illinois Democrats immediately pounced on the mass shooting to grandstand and promote gun control in an effort to forward a brazen political agenda.

Chief among those taking advantage of the tragic situation was Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), who spoke at a press conference just hours after the carnage took place that left six people dead and more than 30 injured.

Duckworth is an Iraq war veteran who lost her legs to a rocket-propelled grenade that hit her Army helicopter. She never misses a chance to use that to her advantage politically and is a huge gun control advocate. The leftist senator recently enacted a bipartisan gun safety law. Illinois has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation already and some of the highest crime rates.

“This morning, I got up like most Americans, like the families of the six who were killed, to celebrate life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” Duckworth stated in what seemed like a scripted message. “Those six families no longer have that opportunity. My heart goes out to those families who will never see their loved ones again.”

“Today, we have seen that we can’t just stop there,” she warned. “We have to do more to keep our community safe. We have to get rid of assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, and so many other additional commonsense reforms that wide majorities of Americans are crying out for.”

“I just listened to the sound of that gunfire from one of the videos that was captured,” Duckworth dramatically stated. “And let me tell you that the last time I heard a weapon with that capacity firing that rapidly on a Fourth of July was Iraq. It was not the United States of America. We can and we should and we will do better.”

Right on the heels of Duckworth came Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-Ill.), venting righteous anger over the shooting while pushing for more gun control.

“A little while ago, I spoke with President Biden who pledged all support the White House can provide,” Pritzker proclaimed at a press conference. “The president agrees with me: this madness must stop.”

Pritzker wanted to make everyone know he was “furious.”

“If you’re angry today, I’m here to tell you, be angry. I’m furious. I’m furious that yet more innocent lives were taken by gun violence. And I’m furious that their loved ones are forever broken by what took place today. I’m furious that children and their families have been traumatized. I’m furious that this is happening in communities all across Illinois and America. I’m furious because it does not have to be this way. And yet we as a nation, well, we continue to allow this to happen,” he asserted.

“There are going to be people who say that today is not the day, that now is not the time to talk about guns,” he disingenuously added. “I’m telling you, there is no better day and no better time than right here and right now. It’s the Fourth of July, a day for reflection on our freedoms. Our founders carried muskets, not assault weapons. And I don’t think a single one of them would have said that you have a constitutional right to an assault weapon with a high-capacity magazine.”

“Yes, I’m angry. We as a nation deserve better. Let us pray for the injured and those who are still in the hospital tonight. And may the memory of those we lost today be a blessing and a call to action,” he concluded.

Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.), who represents Highland Park, also put in his two cents worth via Twitter, “Hearing of loss of life and others injured. My condolences to the family and loved ones; my prayers for the injured and for my community. Enough is enough!”

The president did not miss a chance either to chime in on the horrific shooting, pushing for more gun control while vowing that he will never give up on it.
