Senate candidate wants ‘dope money’ from blacks, calls for ‘secret sleepers’ to infiltrate SC GOP: report

During a profanity-filled phone call evidently with a prison inmate, a South Carolina Democrat elected official allegedly proposed infiltrating the state GOP with sham “secret sleeper” candidates as a way to “wreak havoc.”

Project Veritas published the leaked audio of State Rep. Krystle Matthews allegedly talking on a recorded line. “On that call, Matthews used racially-charged language and encouraged dirty campaign tricks including Democrats running as Republicans for local office,” Project Veritas Action claimed.

Matthews is in a runoff on Tuesday with Catherine Fleming Bruce to determine which Democrat will face GOP U.S. Senator Tim Scott in November. Neither Democrat, however, has any chance of unseating Scott in the red state.

In the June 14 Democrat primary, Bruce received about 35 percent of the vote to Matthews’ 33 percent in a three-way contest.

Last year, Twitter permanently suspended Project Veritas’ Twitter account, but several conservative influencers, including civil rights attorney Harmeet Dhillon, shared the audio on the platform.

“We need some secret sleepers. Like you need, we need them to run as the other side, even though they for our side. And we need them to win. We need people to run as Republicans in these local elections. This is the only way you’re gonna change the dynamics in South Carolina,” Matthews allegedly says on the tape.

“We can battle ’em in public all day, as long as we know we working for the goal. For me, I feel like, y’all, we need sleepers. When we get enough of us in there, we can wreak havoc for real from the inside out. Then we can flip some s–t from the inside out,” she purportedly added. “We gotta take back some of those seats, especially in these local elections.”

Matthews also supposedly alluded to some unconventional fundraising techniques.

“And I still got to struggle to raise money for my campaign; where the f— is my black people with money? I don’t care about no dope money. Give me that dope boy money…where the duffle bag boys?…find me somebody from your family that don’t even know you donating to my campaign and put that s–t under they names.”

“In federal elections in the United States, straw donor schemes are illegal under 52 U.S.C. §30122,” Project Veritas Action noted.

Among other things, the lawmaker also seemed to imply the need to vandalize political yard signs at night.

South Carolina currently has an open-primary process, which means that any voter can participate in one party’s primary election.

Below is a longer version of the same alleged conversation for which you can listen and judge for yourself:

State Rep. Matthews has not, as yet, released a statement about the leaked audio.
