Unfortunate video of Biden’s view on abortion resurfaces after he slams SCOTUS for stripping ‘Constitutional right’

President Biden’s words are coming back to haunt as he was originally primarily against abortion, at one time calling for a constitutional amendment to undo Roe v. Wade, but now he’s all for it, asserting abortion is a fundamental right.

Early in Biden’s career, he supported an individual’s right to an abortion but opposed federal funds to pay for them. He went on to back Republican efforts to ban so-called “partial-birth abortions” and said he would have liked to go further in restricting them.

In 2006, two years before he was elected vice president, Biden said he did “not view abortion as a choice and a right,” according to CNN. One year later, he spoke of his internal conflict as a Catholic in an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“I was 29 years old when I came to the United States Senate, and I have learned a lot,” he said at the time. “I’m a practicing Catholic, and it is the biggest dilemma for me in terms of comporting my religious and cultural views with my political responsibility.”

Back in the early 1980s, Biden, who was a U.S. Senator from Delaware at the time, signed a proposed amendment by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) that sought to reverse Roe vs. Wade.

“A right to abortion is not secured by this Constitution,” read the Human Life Federalism Amendment. “The Congress and several States shall have the concurrent power to restrict and prohibit abortions: Provided, That a law of a State which is more restrictive than a law of Congress shall govern.”

The Senate Judiciary Committee, where Biden was a ranking minority member, voted 10-7 for the resolution.

A New York Times article published at the time cited Biden as saying the choice was difficult and, as a Roman Catholic, he wasn’t sure he had “a right to impose” his view on the country, but he ultimately voted in favor of the proposed Amendment.

Biden continues to avoid using the word “abortion” in public, preferring language such as “a woman’s right to choose.”

Fast forward to today as the Supreme Court has just overturned the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade. He has done a complete about-face on the issue and, in fact, has radicalized on it. His viewpoint on abortion seems to have shifted with the political winds of the moment as violence looms in the wake of the high court’s decision.

The president has directed the Health and Human Services Department to take steps to make sure abortion and contraception medications are available “to the fullest extent possible” and his administration plans to protect the right to travel to another state for an abortion.

“The health and life of women of our nation are now at risk,” Biden charged. “Make no mistake. This decision is the culmination of a deliberate effort over decades to upset the balance of our law.”

Biden proclaimed that this is the first time the court has revoked a constitutional right, calling it a “sad day for the court and for the country.”

“Voters need to make their voices heard,” Biden said, calling on them to elect candidates that will restore the right to an abortion at the congressional and local levels. “This fall Roe is on the ballot. Personal freedoms are on the ballot. The right to privacy, liberty, equality, they’re all on the ballot.”

Biden commented that the decision was “cruel” for women who become pregnant as a result of rape or incest.

“It just stuns me,” he asserted.
