Controlling language is key to controlling the population and the progressive left’s efforts over the past 10 years or so could be a case study on how a fringe minority can inflict its failed ideology on a nation. But, alas, as in most things in life, success often breeds confidence which breeds cockiness, which ultimately leads to one’s undoing.
And that may be where the radical left finds itself today with the insanity that defines critical gender theory.
Case in point, a left-wing “publisher” found itself the target of serious grief when it had the audacity to reduce women to little more than “womb carriers” in an ambitiously woke Twitter thread highlighting “misogynistic violence against Indigenous peoples.” The term seems to be a demotion from “birthing people,” which has been a woke staple.
Verso Books, which declares itself “the largest independent, radical publishing house in the English speaking world,” tweeted, “In the 1970s up to 50% of Native womb carriers were sterilized against their will by the Indian Health Service (IHS).”
“Stripping our womb-carriers of their ability to have children is the continuation of over 500 years of misogynistic violence against Indigenous peoples,” the thread continued. “Native people have also been stripped of their right to parent – Native children are singled out for adoption into white, Christian homes, effectively taking them out of Indigenous communities.”
The pushback to “womb carriers” was so intense that the thread was apparently deleted in its entirety.

Good.
The sad thing is they won't replace it with the proper version. pic.twitter.com/VVjNF6KTFq

One social media user said the “linguistic filleting of our bodies is creepy in the extreme,” while another suggested that Verso was “complicit in the very dehumanization they claim to oppose.”
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
Verso Books @verso-books
We are more than womb carriers. We are women with feelings, love and aspirations. Is it so hard to call us women. Describing us like this makes it so easy to remove us. Is this the real agenda. pic.twitter.com/gBzYHKkNvr— Soter (@Soter100) June 23, 2022
Hey verso books, I’m “womb carrier” and I will like to politely tell you to fuck off. Us WOMAN have name, rights, reproductive systems that we have inherited thanks.
So, please do yourself a favour and educate yourself! https://t.co/krHzgniUM4

“Womb carriers” ? The language gets more bizarre by the day. A woman’s body is an entire, intricate, interconnected system, not a collection of organs we “carry” around. This weird, dehumanising linguistic filleting of our bodies is creepy in the extreme.

In describing women as “womb carriers”, reducing us to incubators, @VersoBooks are complicit in the very dehumanisation they claim to oppose. That women were reduced to breeders – rather than recognised as humans with rights & agency – led to the horror of forced sterilisation.

Verso Books has lost their minds and have replaced the word “woman” with “womb carrier”. https://t.co/s53v2N8niL

Good evening @Martina how are you my fellow Womb-Carrier, I’d call you a woman but you know Verso Books the world famous publishing house have told us exactly what we are. How charming of them. X pic.twitter.com/YuMakF7pe0
