Police have arrested a man suspected of sucker-punching a Kentucky mayor over the weekend, another example of the criminal mayhem that has plagued Democrat-controlled cities since the defund the police movement empowered thugs to act out violently with little fear of being held accountable for their actions.
Louisville police announced that they have taken a man into custody who is believed to have clocked Democrat Mayor Greg Fischer during a Saturday celebration of Pride and Juneteenth at the city’s Fourth Street Live entertainment complex, a “totally unprovoked” act that was captured on surveillance video.
The suspect, 30-year-old Antwon M. Brown was arrested “without incident” by the Louisville Metro Police Department on Tuesday and arraigned in Jefferson County District Court on Wednesday where he pleaded not guilty.

Brown’s attorney was successful in getting the bond lowered from $25,000 to $5,000 despite the protests of Assistant Jefferson County Attorney Kristin Southard who said, “There is a documented history of some violence, and this bond has been set appropriately,” according to Louisville Fox affiliate WDRB.

“At the end of the day, this is a misdemeanor assault,” Brown’s defense attorney said. “He did walk allegedly away after the alleged assault. So that bond should be commiserate with the nature of the charge.”
The video of the assault on Mayor Fischer went viral on social media, showing the suspect slowly walking up, cocking a fist and clobbering the Democrat politician who fell to the ground as his dreadlocked assailant fled the scene.

Fischer, who said that he wasn’t injured, joked about the incident and that he “channeled my inner Muhammad Ali” on Tuesday, referring to the legendary boxing champ who was from Louisville.
“You know it was a startling thing,” the mayor said. “But your instincts are to get right back up and just kind of keep doing what you were doing. Fortunately, I was not hurt and everything worked out just fine.”
“No, just, you know, it’s interesting to see something like that,” he said. “And he delivered a pretty good blow. I absorbed it and just got right back up. You know, I work out a little bit and try to stay in shape, but I’m getting older too.”
“Well it is a sad commentary when people feel like they have to resort to violence — and there’s a lot,” Fischer said of the assault, seeming to make excuses for his attacker. “Our country right now is going through some very difficult times. I mean, this is not just a Louisville issue. You see it in school board meetings, you see it in Supreme Court justices, you see it in governors, you know, and I think as a country and as a city you have to stop and say, ‘What’s going on here?'”
Last week, Fischer apologized to black residents for the actions of people who have been dead for centuries.
“I cannot erase all the injustices from the first slave ships to today,” he said at a Thursday Juneteenth luncheon. “But what I can do is offer a sincere apology from me as a person and, more importantly, on behalf of the institution of the city government of Louisville.”
The Louisville slugger Brown will be subject to home arrest if he makes bond; he was also ordered by the judge to have no contact with Fischer.
