CNN drops to lowest weekday key demo audience in 22 years: ‘Obsession with Jan. 6 NOT working magic’

Fox News journalist Brian Flood reported on the historic fail of CNN as it plummets even further in the ratings despite the Jan. 6 inquisition being played in primetime.

CNN’s magic bullet painting conservatives as insurrectionists and domestic terrorists is evidently experiencing an epic face-plant in regards to viewership. That imagined political lifeline is beyond frayed.

The leftist network had its smallest audience in 22 years on Friday among the coveted 25-54-year-old demographic, according to Fox News. It averaged a dismal 56,000 viewers in that slot. The last time CNN’s numbers were that bad was on July 10, 2000.

On CNN’s no good, very bad Friday, the outlet also experienced its smallest weekday audience among all viewers since June of 2014. It averaged 283,000 viewers. It’s a miracle the network is even still on the air with those numbers.

Media Research Center’s Tim Graham observed, “The obsession with January 6 is NOT working magic for CNN. No wonder Brian Stelter complains about their ‘freedom of reach’!”

Fox News averaged 1.4 million total viewers and 209,000 in the 25-54-year-old demographic. That is reportedly the largest spread between the two networks since August 6, 2015.

CNN had an awful three-day stretch last week. The Warner Bros. Discovery network averaged only 88,000 demo viewers from June 15 to 17. That’s their worst three-weekday performance since June of 2014.

Host Brian Stelter averaged a disastrous total of 421,000 viewers. He only scored 56,000 viewers in the 25-54-year-old demographic. According to Flood, that’s the tiniest audience for “Reliable Sources” since December 27, 2015, for total viewership and the smallest since December 29, 2013, for the 25-54-year-old demographic.

The “woke” wizards of CNN are apparently in a death spiral and are in a race to see how low they can go if the rankings at TV Newser are to be believed.

“Stelter’s program was crushed by its timeslot competition on Fox News Channel, as ‘MediaBuzz’ averaged 1.2 million viewers and 176,000 from the range of adults age 25-54 to outdraw CNN by 185% among total viewers and 214% among the demo at 11 a.m. ET,” Flood reported, verifying that Stelter’s show is dead on arrival as far as viewership goes.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse or any more embarrassing for Stelter, he outdid himself.

“Reruns of ‘Family Matters,’ ‘Roseanne,’ ‘The Office,’ ‘Shark Tank’ and ‘Family Guy’ all outdrew Stelter’s program among the 25-54 demo, as did children’s programming such as ‘Peppa Pig’ and ‘Spongebob SquarePants.’ Over 5,000 cable telecasts topped ‘Reliable Sources’ in the demo last week,” Fox News reported, dealing a death blow to Stelter’s gigantic leftist ego.

CNN”s woes are a continuation of ongoing problems that were occurring before the appointment of CNN chairman and CEO Chris Licht. He’s currently assessing who stays and who goes at the network and these numbers could be very bad news for Stelter.

“Chris is in the midst of an entire org evaluation, which includes a review of talent and executives,” a CNN insider told Fox News Digital last week in an interview. “He’s determined to tamp down spectacle and has discouraged the presentation of content in an alarmist fashion.”

Licht already put the kibosh on the network’s “Breaking News” chyron unless it was truly appropriate. He also reportedly told staffers that they were to stop referring to former President Trump’s claims of voter fraud as the “Big Lie,” according to Fox News. So far, the anchors have not all adhered to his admonishment.

If CNN is to reclaim legitimacy and profitability, rankings such as the ones from last week will have to necessarily change and that probably means a massive shake-up is coming at the network. Licht has already pulled the plug on CNN+ and the clock is ticking for a number of personalities at the network.
