Parents, reporters kicked out of Uvalde City Council meeting, officials felt ‘intimidated’

As the United States mourns the 19 lives lost in the Robb Elementary School shooting that took place in Uvalde, Texas, the people of the town are demanding answers. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the city council plans of giving them any time soon.

Several people including journalists and parents were asked to leave the Uvalde City Council meeting on Monday evening. The group was told they were getting the boot because the legislators and law enforcement present were “intimidated.”

A chaplain was also removed from the meeting, but not before making a plea to hear “the truth of why they didn’t protect our kids.”

Video from the meeting was also shared online, shocking many:

The entire scene was caught by CNN correspondent Shimon Prokupecz, who asked the fire marshal to name the party that claimed to be “intimidated” by the presence of journalists.

“[W]e actually had a lady who had a panic attack last week,” he responded lamely.

“Because reporters were in the room?” Prokupecz clarified.

“Yeah, she just freaked out,” the fire marshal confirmed.

Committee chair Dustin Burrows asserted that the purpose of the hearing was to hear from the local police, an officer from the school district, and a Department of Public Safety official. The public was reportedly not permitted to attend that hearing, though additional hearings will be held in Austin, Texas.

The public had quite a bit to say about parents and reporters being removed from the meeting:
