US women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe evidently considers the defense of transgender athletes more important than her career, showering fans with deep thoughts on life and the woke struggle against the right.
“I think people also need to understand that sports is not the most important thing in life, right? Life is the most important thing in life,” Rapinoe, 36, stated in an interview with Time that was published on Sunday. “And so much of this trans inclusion argument has been put through the extremely tiny lens of elite sports. Like that is not the way that we need to be framing this question.”
She ripped into conservative states, accusing them of pushing transgenders to suicide.
“They are committing suicide because they are being told that they’re gross and different and evil and sinful and they can’t play sports with their friends that they grew up with. Not to mention trying to take away health care. I think it’s monstrous,” the two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup winner remarked.

“Frankly, I think what a lot of people know is versions of the right’s talking points because they’re very loud. They’re very consistent, and they’re relentless,” she asserted. “At the highest level, there is regulation. In collegiate sports, there is regulation. And at the Olympic and professional level. It’s not like it’s a free-for-all where everyone’s just doing whatever.”
“Show me the evidence that trans women are taking everyone’s scholarships, are dominating in every sport, are winning every title. I’m sorry, it’s just not happening. So, we need to start from inclusion, period,” Rapinoe contended.
“I’m 100 percent supportive of trans inclusion,” she told Time. “People do not know very much about it. We’re missing almost everything.”
The soccer player who often took a knee during the national anthem is utterly convinced that society will learn to accept transgender athletes despite evidence to the contrary. She called arguing against their inclusion “cruel and disgusting.”

Rapinoe argued that excluding them from lower-level competition is cruel because people place a higher value on their “kid’s high school volleyball team” than on the lives and well-being of transgender people.
“We need to really kind of take a step back and get a grip on what we’re really talking about here because people’s lives are at risk. Kids’ lives are at risk with the rates of suicide, the rates of depression and negative mental health and drug abuse,” Rapinoe railed. “We’re putting everything through God forbid a trans person be successful in sports. Get a grip on reality and take a step back.”
Interestingly, the soccer star did not comment on whether she would welcome transgender women joining her on the US Women’s National Team. She wasn’t even asked that question.

Rapinoe is speaking up again following FINA, which is swimming’s governing body, deciding to create an “open category” where transgenders can compete separately from women.
The player has been an advocate for a number of social justice issues, including gender equality in sports and fighting for equal pay between men’s and women’s international teams, and has been a proponent for trans rights.
