The mayor of Louisville, Kentucky was in downtown on Saturday evening when a suspect came up to him and punched him.

Mayor Greg Fischer (D) is “is doing fine,” his spokeswoman Jessica Wethington said in a statement, according to the Courier-Journal.

Police are still investigating the assault and are in search of the fist-wielding individual who took off after the incident. Photos were released on social media to aid the manhunt of the black man authorities suspects instigated the crime although police have not identified him.

“Earlier this evening, while at Fourth Street Live, Mayor Fischer was punched by an individual,” the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) wrote on Twitter.

“The Mayor is doing fine. LMPD is investigating & will release further information as it becomes available. Anyone with information can call our anonymous tip line at 502-574-5673,” the statement read.

Additional overhead shots were provided of the suspect moving on foot through the area nearby.

It seems that the incident might be a wake-up call to the democrat’s leftist policies that have supported the defund the police movement as one social media user noted.

Earlier in the day, Fischer was sighted at a social justice event “March for Justice” to celebrate Breonna Taylor, who has become a poster child for Black Lives Matter after the police were conducting a “no-knock” search warrant where her boyfriend first opened fired on police causing them to fire back, killing Taylor. He also marched in a Pride parade.

“Regardless of the outcome, I know we did the legal, moral, and ethical thing that night,” police sergeant Jonathan Mattingly said in an email to 1,000 fellow Louisville cops in September of 2020. “It’s sad how the good guys are demonized, and criminals are canonized.”

Despite the officer’s convictions, the mayor told reporters with the Courier-Journal that the event in Taylor’s honor would help in “making the city a more just place.”
