‘Oddly specific’: ABC News deletes tweet declaring Dems will hold House in Nov, gain 4 Senate seats

In 1948, the Chicago Daily Tribune erroneously ran the headline “Dewey Defeats Truman” the day after incumbent President Harry S. Truman won his election campaign. More than seventy years later ABC News raised eyebrows after deleting a tweet much like the Tribune, only months ahead of the midterm elections.

On Saturday, the Associated Press published a piece titled “Biden’s optimism collides with mounting political challenges” that discussed the strategy for Democratic politicians ahead of November contests. ABC News ran the story as well, but initially deleted a link to the article that they had posted to Twitter.

The caption for the tweet was the opening line to the piece that stated, “Democrats are going to hold onto the House after November’s midterm elections. They will pick up as many as four seats in the Senate, expanding their majority and overcoming internal dissent that has helped stifle their agenda.”

Neither ABC News nor the AP presented the story as opinion and the lede appeared to be present an objective truth that the outlets had come to well in advance of ballots being cast prompting Human Events senior Editor Jack Posobiec to ask what’s going on.

“Hi @ABC!” Posobiec wrote. “Why did you delete this?”

It wasn’t long after the suspicious deletion was pointed out that ABC News posted a new link to the exact same article captioned, “A previous tweet took the lede of an AP story about Pres. Biden’s optimistic view of the Democratic Party’s chances this November out of context. The story indicates that the view is at odds with many in his party.”

Despite the hasty cleanup from ABC, there remains no indication that the claim Democrats “will pick up as many as four seats in the Senate” and “hold onto the House” is anything but a fact as presented by the piece.

As such, many jumped on the content and the manner in which ABC covered for their initial promotion of the story as serious cause for concern. “Perhaps the FBI and Congress should be investigating how ABC can call the election so early,” one person posted. “What do they know and how do the know it? Suspicious.”

Even CNN has reported that the GOP is in their best position ahead of an election since at least 1938 under these metrics. Senior data reporter Harry Enten recently said, “When you look at the generic congressional ballot…this is the best Republican position…basically of all time.”

With enthusiasm among conservative voters steadily growing, many saw the potential news that they system could be rigged as enough to knock the wind out of their sails.

Warning: Language

One person even hinted at the change in course CNN has taken with their new leadership writing, “Pretty sure they are trying to grab some of CNN’s lost market share with their own fictional narratives.”

Meanwhile, others dismissed the story as a pipe dream from corporate media still holding out for Democrats to remain in power come the midterms. On that note, someone suggested saving the post to look at the day after the election for a laugh.

  16. The demons will gain senate seats, as well as governors’ offices and any statewide office they deem desirable. The ballot dumping that occurred in 6 cities in 2020 will expand to about 25 cities in 2022, and since nothing will be done about it, by 2024 they will have it set up in every Congressional district as well. Our justice department is not interested as long as their paychecks keep coming.

  22. Are you serious? Does anyone honestly believe the FBI or anyone for that matter, will investigate the source of this tweet? We’ll just have to wait and see what happens in November. Then come right back here and wring our hands and whine about nothing being done to save our country.

  23. Who knows what they were getting at?!…the mainstream “news media” is so perverse that there’s no telling what they are getting at. Period. Still, one thing that might be gleaned from this story is the conceivability that things aren’t, after all, as they appear. Readers here on these pages are well aware of the treacherous degradation of the USA the Biden Administration and its allies in Congress and the news and social media have brought. And, indeed, it does cause enormous concern and anger. But just as readers here are aware of it, so ARE the Democrats. Yet, they continue to move ahead, doubling down at every turn, denying reality as much…or more…than ever as if the reality of rejection is nothing to be concerned about. They may be disloyal to America and they may be idiots…but they aren’t stupid. They have many and long sleeves, and we can only wonder what they have up them. One can only hope that the Republicans are paying more attention than they did last time around.

For the rinos, haters of President Trump’s mean tweets, and republican hand-wringers that keep saying “we”shouldn’t talk about the 2020 election…that “ we” need to put it behind us…that “we” need to move forward…that the election was not stolen or rigged. When you see stories like this, and the way the democrats seem unconcerned about what they and xiden are doing to America… it sure makes me very suspicious. They got away with stealing the presidency because so called republicans punked out from doing anything…why wouldn’t they rig another election? So when they do steal the midterms… then what?

  25. Been saying since the 2020 election debacle ( even earlier)…why isn’t there a concerted effort by SOMEONE to correct the voting irregularities? I predicted this will come up only as we approach the midterms and find nothing has been done to correct this. Why the big surprise? We all know nothing was done for years.

  32. The story is plausible: if the “fortification” that worked for the democrats is repeated, and media continues to participate in the destruction of election integrity, then democrats could “win” many seats.
