House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made a guest appearance on “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” this week where she told the drag queens they “inspired” her.
“My honor to be here to say to all of you, how proud we all are of you. Thank you for the joy and beauty you bring to the world,” Pelosi said as she stood clad in a bright yellow pants suit on episode 5 this week.
“Your freedom of expression of yourselves in drag is what America is all about,” Pelosi told the contestants in what appeared to be a completely scripted exchange.
“I say that all the time to my friends in drag,” she added.
She posted a clip featuring her appearance on the show on Twitter and reinforced the link she sees between freedom and drag queens.
“It was an honor to make an appearance on episode 5 of @RuPaulsDragRace All Stars 7 this week,” Pelosi wrote on social media after the taping. “I was inspired by the contestants because they know their power. Their freedom of expression is what America is all about.”

During her appearance amongst the highly done-up dudes, one of the drag contestants wearing elbow-length blue satin gloves complimented Pelosi for her mocking method of applause.
“We through the word master class around here all the time,” he (she?) said. “but that sarcastic shady clap you do was… epic.”
“It was completely unintentional,” Pelosi responded flippantly.
The contestant seemed to be referring to a speech then President Donald Trump gave on the House floor in 2019. Pelosi was seated behind him and offered the head of the executive branch an overtly sarcastic clap that was perceived by many to be an outright “F-U” from the Speaker of the House.
Watched this several times and still can’t understand that clapping from @speakerPelosi. This only expresses weakness and hatred. She ought to show more respect regardless of her opinion from @realDonaldTrump

Pelosi’s appearance marks the second time she’s appeared on the “reality show” that promotes drag queens. In her first 2018 appearance she said that drag queens can help politicians learn to be more “authentic.”
“Authenticity. Taking pride in who you are. Knowing your power — that’s what I talk about on my brief segment on the show,” Pelosi told Hollywood Reporter at the time.
“This idea of people believing in themselves, being themselves, taking pride in themselves, is not just a lesson for politicians but for everyone in the country. And that’s why I was so excited and couldn’t resist being on the show,” she said.
Instead of mocking Trump with her hands, she took a moment during the episode to insult him with her words.
“You know what? Donald Trump’s policies, the respect I think his administration should have for the LGBTQ community, that’s more important than the fun we might have about his hair or any song he might lip sync,” she said. “Though I do think he’s lip syncing some of his policies, because when you talk to him, he says, ‘I really am with you on this.’ And then his policy goes and does something else.”
