Senator brags about driving pricey electric car to D.C. gleefully ignoring gas prices crushing ordinary Americans

Once again, a leftist lawmaker has expressed the elitist “let them eat cake” attitude of Democrat Party members who are indifferent to the suffering of the little people.

Democrats are clearly in love with their electric vehicles, a major feature of the Green New Deal utopia, and can hardly conceal their delight over the record gas prices that are currently crushing the household budgets of ordinary Americans.

During Tuesday’s Senate Finance Committee on President Joe Biden’s 2023 budget, Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow boasted about her new electric car, and the wondrous journey that she made from the Wolverine State to the swamp, breezing by gas stations with the average national price tickling $5 per gallon, a perfect example of the growing disconnect between the political elites and those who don’t have the money to shell out for one of the costly status symbols.

An excited Stabenow briefly interrupted the testimony of Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to make it all about her to plug the expensive EVs.

“I do have to say, just on the issue of gas prices, after waiting for a long time to have enough chips in this country to finally get my electric vehicle,” she said. “I got it and drove it from Michigan to here this last weekend and went by every single gas station, and it didn’t matter how high it was.”

“And so I’m looking forward to the opportunity for us to move to vehicles that aren’t going to be dependent on the whims of the oil companies and the international markets,” added Stabenow.

Twitter reacted to Stabenow’s elitist gloating which was like rubbing salt into the wounds of suffering Americans who are priced out of the EV market and reeling from Biden’s ruinous energy policies.

For those who may expect Congressional Democrats and the Biden administration to “do something” to address the economic punishment being inflicted on beleaguered Americans at the pump, their pleas will continue to fall on deaf ears, with Treasury Secretary Yellen also less concerned about the deteriorating conditions of the moment and more into chasing the unicorns of clean energy.

Then there’s the nation’s “leader” himself, letting it slip that the administration and its allies view the skyrocketing gas prices as part of an “incredible transition,” or in former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s terms, never let a really good crisis “go to waste.”

  3. I wonder what type of discount they’re getting on these Ford and Chevy EVs…surely the government wouldn’t allow them to buy/lease a Tesla. They have to be Government approved EVs to get that $1000.00 per month stipend that the TAXPAYERS are paying for. I sure as heck can’t afford one, and I sure wouldn’t be able to pay the cost of plugging it in. We’re already doing rolling blackouts. What’s going to happen when “plugging in” takes precedence over powering your home’s heat or AC? Home electricity blocked but EV plug-in points kept active and accessible. Just like CA with water rationing. All the farmers and home owners suffer through it but the state and government buildings still have their water fountains going. Just another way to control all of us commoners.

    1. PS… Stabenow was one of the people that Monsanto paid to back the “Save Monsanto Act” that THEY wrote and that Pompeo brought to the floor for the vote. Another Obama screw-up that he wouldn’t stand against. A lot of Dems got paid for that one.

I say take her salary and use it to buy electric vehicles……I think it is good that these people spout off and show what a true democrat is like…..piss on the regular people, regardless of race, color or gender identification….maybe some of the staunch democratic voters will wake up and vote for the country, instead of the party?

With a sky rocketing inflation most people are having trouble putting food on the table. It would justice that the next time she is up for reelection she receives zero votes!!

    1. I agree, but I also believe that liberal ignorance is not new. How do I know? I noticed the difference between liberal democrats and conservatives is that liberal news media proves their constituents follow them by regurgitating the same talking points pretty much verbatim unlike conservatives. They repeat what they are told, much like the illegals are versed upon entry at the borders to claim hardships in their country as to why they seek asylum.

These cars cost environmeltally, what with batteries & lack of recycling, production of electricity, etc. AND the crash that’s going to happen when a few more of these cars are out there wanting to charge – the crash of the grid system because the grid’s not capable of handling all the increase.

    1. We need honest elections. No mail in voting unless you can’t make it to the polls on Election Day for valid reasons.

  21. Almost 500 miles from Michigan to DC … she passed up gas stations but how long did she have to wait for recharges …

    1. Actually Jon, it is closer to 630 miles, being that the longest range for an electric vehicle is now 300 miles at best, providing one did not have to use lights, A/C, heater or charge their phone, you are talking a three-day trip, having to stop to charge for many hours, adding the expense of food and lodging, (Which we also paid for, and you can be sure she didn’t stay at Motel 6) that I could do easily in a day, with but one stop for gas and to clean the windshield!
      Then there is the very real issue of negligence, most certainly a concern for any in office, being that if you run out of electricity in the middle of nowhere, Triple ‘A’ is not going to bring you a can of electricity! Eventually, tow companies may install DIESEL generators on their GAS/DIESEL powered tow trucks, still that is down the road, (Pun intended) and would take hours, suggesting that such will never happen, as towing, even at the great expense it is, will be the only option, as sending out an employee, paid by the hour, to sit and watch a car charge, is NOT a productive business model! Not to mention the potential liability, should said electrical vehicle flame up while charging, a risk I doubt insurance companies are willing to take, as I would assume they already exempt the company from liability for flame ups, forcing owners to spend years and much more money than the car is worth to sue the manufacturer.
