DeSantis tops Trump in yet another 2024 straw poll, taking high marks at Colo. conservative summit

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis won a 2024 presidential candidate straw poll over former President Donald Trump at a conservative conference held in Colorado on Saturday.

DeSantis took high marks for a potential presidential bid with 71 percent supporting his candidacy. Only 67 percent voted for a Trump presidency in the poll which allowed attendees to vote for multiple candidates, Fox News reported.

The poll was conducted at the Western Conservative Summit which was organized by an affiliate of Colorado Christian University known as the Centennial Institute. This marks the second year in a row that DeSantis received top marks in the 2024 straw poll. Last year’s attendees gave DeSantis a 74 percent presidential approval rating and Trump 71 percent.

The outcome was also the second straw poll in the past month where the Florida governor has prevailed over Trump. In a Wisconsin state GOP convention straw poll held late last month, DeSantis defeated the former president 38% to 32%, with former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, the first female governor of South Carolina, coming in third.

Other candidates that garnered support from attendees for a presidential run included Sen. Ted Cruz with 29 percent, and retired neurosurgeon and politician Ben Carson with 24 percent approval. Sara Huckabee Sanders received 18 percent of the straw poll vote.

Sanders spoke at the conference about the importance of having a strong conservative in the White House.

“We have to make sure that we have strong, Christian conservatives, engaged in making sure we have good leadership,” she said.

“So often in our pro-life conversation, we only talk about the womb. Let me be very clear: The reason that we have to talk about it all, is because every stage of life has value, from every moment starting at conception, to the classroom, to the workplace, to the nursing home, to the end of it’s natural conclusion, every [life has value],” Sanders told attendees.

Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) gave her first speech at the summit and discussed the recent attacks on the First and Second amendments.

“Getting rid of the Second Amendment will not stop these evil acts of violence,” she said.

In a similar vein, she noted that “getting rid of the First Amendment, banning and censoring so-called hate speech as many of our politicians are advocating now, will not get rid of hate.”

“Yes, our freedoms are being threatened, but that threat is not coming from some far off foreign country, but it’s coming from within,” the freedom-loving democrat said.

She said politicians “claim to want to protect us from misinformation, protect us from that which they claim is not true. The idea that we blindly follow along with whatever the government or those in power tell us is true, it goes against the very essence of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.”

Many people found a DeSantis or Trump candidacy to be ideal and thought whichever way the ticket went, the American people would win.

  1. Don’t get me wrong here, I loved Trump as our president and believe he is still our rightful President to this day. But based on recent endorsements of, obviously RINO candidates across the country, by Trump, I’m questioning wth is he doing?
In my state alone, NV he has endorsed some of the biggest liars/RINO’s ever to run for political office, ever.
I don’t understand his reasoning in giving out these endorsements. Is he getting bad info from his team? Is someone else giving out the endorsements in his name?
If anyone can explain this, I’d love to hear what you have to say.

  2. When is bizpac going to delete this work at home scams…sometimes there is more of their posts than real comment posts… put a stop to this…..

  3. One thing for sure, Republicans have an abundance of true Conservative leaders ready to fight while the Dims are in a deep decline. Even talking about Biden is ’24 is worse than waving the white flag and throwing in the towel.

Be prepared for a devastating crisis generated by the Left, as it’s their only play.

  4. DeSantis will be an overall better candidate. He doesn’t go tweeter crazy when “they” come after him.
If your honest Trump has too much baggage. And if you’re really honest, he ran a poor re-election campaign. The first debate was painful to watch, and he never recovered.

    1. Agree. However, he was the first incumbent to gain in the popular vote and not win, won 18 of the 19 bell weather issues, Biden didn’t get anywhere close to 81 million votes, and there’s more than enough public findings [AZ, Wisc, and 2000 Mules] to prove that Trump actually won Big.
Certainly, Trump has his issues but he already saved America once! I guess we can all thank God for that!

  5. I love Trump and all he did for our country but he is going to be hounded full time by the msm and the Dems over made-up crap. He will spend half of his time responding to their insults and lies. DeSantis has shown that he can handle the msm and he isn’t as thin-skinned as Trump and will let most of their crap die a natural death. He will have the support of many Dems and never-Trumpers that Trump won’t have. I will be happy with either but I think DeSantis will have more overall support than Trump.

  6. Dems think that doing away with the 1st and 2nd Amend. will correct all the wrongs done in this nation. Still they forgot or just dont want to remember that you cannot legislate morality, but they can corral the nation so that they can have their way with their evil plans to sell us down the river which they are in the process of completing. It will also effectively stop any opposition to their plans for us. In the Patriot with Mel Gibson, Col. Tavington once asked Cornwallis to tell him about Ohio which was going to be his payoff for tyrannical nefarious operations to conquer the patriots at the time. Ill bet that there are such plans in place for those who help the dems conquer the Constitution. What they dont see coming is that the NWO and those in chg. of it have no loyalty to anyone. Not even those who help them. I have found in my life that most people are only friends as long as they need something from you. For that reason , I have very very few friends.

  7. I don’t give a ratsazz what some elite party leaders think. I like DeSantis, too…for 2028. He has already said he has more to do in Florida. We need Trump. Of course we won’t get either one without some serious work on the electoral apparatus. That is what these elite idiots need to be working on.

  8. Trump is a leader. He put up with 4 years of attacks, lies and demorats throwing everything in their war chest at him. Yes they succeeded. At what price? Trump did well with our economy and with foreign countries. He could of accomplished so much more if it wasnt for the filthy demorats. Yet there are still millions of americans who hate trump and do not see or overlook what these left wingers are doing and why they are doing it.
