‘Absolute rubbish!’ Rolling Stone slammed for claiming survivors are ‘sickened’ by Amber Heard verdict

The left-wing Rolling Stone magazine appears to be deriving exactly the wrong message from the outcome of the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial, and social media is letting the publication know how far it has strayed.

In the aftermath of the decision on Wednesday by a Virginia jury to award the “Pirates of the Caribbean” A-List — or former A-List — actor $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive (the latter capped by state law at $3500,000) for defamation against his ex-wife, Rolling Stone lamented that the campaign against sexual harassment and related more disturbing offenses, may have come to a halt.

In an article that was subtitled “Survivors ‘Sickened’ by the Amber Heard Verdict,” Rolling Stone quotes a psychologist who said that “This is basically the end of MeToo…It’s the death of the whole movement.”

“As the verdict came in, sexual assault survivors expressed their disappointment with the decision, even if they were not surprised by it,” the magazine noted. According to one survivor, “men always win.”

The magazine also implied that Amber Heard is the victim because she was a woman who wasn’t believed.

“In the wake of the #MeToo movement, which drove home just how omnipresent abusers are and gave voice to survivors around the world, it seems inconceivable that a woman could come forward with an allegation of sexual and physical violence against a prominent man and be shamed and vilified to the extent that Heard has been,” Rolling Stone claimed, in part.

Rolling Stone is the same publication that had to pay millions to settle legal claims after it published and then retracted an agenda-driven and debunked story about an alleged University of Virginia gang rape. More recently, it published a fake narrative about ivermectin.

Rolling Stone was raked over the coals for claiming survivors of domestic violence were “sickened” by the Depp-Heard verdict.

Heard’s team has indicated it will appeal. It seems unlikely, however, that a higher court would overturn the verdict after the jury spent six weeks reviewing a mountain of evidence in the case that primarily arose from Heard’s Washington Post op-ed about domestic violence.

There are also reports that the presiding judge excluded some forms of evidence that would have been further damaging to Heard.

A settlement between the parties is also an option, even if an appeal is pending, which might include giving Heard a setoff, i.e., deducting her $2 million countersuit jury award from what she owes on the Depp judgment.

Rolling Stone seemed to overlook that the jury, and apparently most of the world, found Heard’s allegations against Depp not credible based on various forms of evidence, including witness testimony, presented at trial.

Many thought Heard’s histrionic testimony on the witness stand, in which she constantly looked over at the jury to gauge their reaction to her answers about how she was allegedly abused by Depp, was cringe-worthy.

Among other things, moreover, the fact that she never actually ponied up her $7 million divorce settlement from Depp to charity as she promised also undermined her credibility. Her claim that pledging and donating constituted the same thing just didn’t fly.

Depp and Heard met while they were filming the unfunny and not particularly dramatic comedy-drama “The Rum Diary” in 2011 and were married for about two years.

The tawdry details of the relationship that came out in the trial reminded the world, however, that even celebrity couples with glamorous, jet-setting lifestyles have problems. The only difference from ordinary people perhaps is the profligate spending and extreme decadence.

Apart from the lawyers, and the staggering legal fees of a case of this magnitude, some might say the winners are the hair stylists, the makeup artists, and the wardrobe consultants.

  1. Johnny Depp didn’t sue her for fun.
He had to lay his life, warts and all, bare, for the whole world to see.
There is no doubt that they BOTH said and did things during their marriage that they are not proud of.
He will probably never see the money from the judgement, but I don’t think he cares about that.
He did this to clear his name.
He has also exposed a glaring discrepancy between how women and men are treated in domestic violence cases.
He also highlighted the fact that men are victims of domestic abuse as well. Most are too embarrassed to seek help from law enforcement or shelters.
I want to know if she is ever going to fulfill her “pledge” to donate her divorce proceeds to the two charities she specified.
She will likely say that she can’t afford to give the money now because big bad Johnny sued her and won.
The irony is that if she is forced to pay him the judgment ordered, he will be basically getting back the settlement he paid to her in the divorce.

  2. wow, they are upset that a proven in court liar was caught out and held to account and because the victim was a man, they wanted the female lying abuser to win.
just how sick are the ‘people’ at that rag.

  3. “men always win”
REALLY!? Ever been to family court?

Amazing how an ALLEGED journalistic hub states that a jury decision is wrong simply because they went against a female. So, based on their logic, if a XX insists that the earth is flat, denying same is flat out wrong or some sort of discrimination?

  4. What is their problem? It’s clear from the testimonies and the verdict that Depp is, indeed, a survivor of domestic violence.

I gave up reading the Stone decades ago…it’s an irrelevant rag.

  5. “This is basically the end of MeToo…It’s the death of the whole movement.”

The democrats ended the #MeToo movement when it didn’t apply to male democrat politicians, like Joe Biden.

  6. The #metoo movement had its origins in a lie perpetrated by Christine Blasey Ford so its demise is long overdue. I lying, malicious woman started it and another malicious women ended it.

  7. The story here is not Depp/Heard. It is that the media are forcing their prejudices on the people.

    F the MSM.

  8. Depp won because he was tried in an actual court rather than in the woke news media and in social media.

  9. Shades of the fraternity at Virginia Tech, eh, RS? You “embellished” that story, defamed the fraternity chapter, even though your story was a complete fabrication. I see you’re holding to form.

  10. Anyone who reads that commie rag rolling stone needs a thorough psychological work up.
