A strange and potentially deadly incident reportedly involving a stolen rifle led to a shootout and multiple injuries in the parking lot of a St. Louis-area grocery store.

According to various media reports, a customer allegedly toting a rifle in the Show-Me State and who had just exited the Wellston Food Market was robbed of that weapon at gunpoint outside of the store on Friday afternoon.

“The individual complied and handed over the rifle. Police said the robbery victim went to a vehicle, grabbed another gun, and began shooting at the suspect. A shootout ensued between both parties,” Fox 2 St. Louis reported.

The robbery victim reportedly fled the scene and he is still at large, although detectives apparently located his vehicle.

To make the situation even more bizarre, another man reportedly showed up and shot the alleged rifle thief again. Responding officers found the alleged rifle robber on the ground outside the store. The latter is listed in critical condition at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

The alleged third shooter at the scene is also still at large.

Two female bystanders were wounded in the gunfire, but their injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.

Local cops are requesting the public’s help in obtaining more information about the incident.

A police official told NBC St. Louis affiliate KSDK that prior to the confrontation, the first man “was ‘open carrying’ the rifle in a sleeve underneath his shirt and did not threaten anyone while inside the store.”

In another odd element to this story, KSDK noted: “Wellston Food Market was the scene of a shooting that caused the death of a police officer in 2019….The shootout happened about 45 minutes after Officer [Michael] Langsdorf’s family and friends gathered at Wellston City Hall to remember him.”

Watch a report on the grocery store shooting aired by Fox 2:

Elsewhere in Missouri, in another Friday incident, Kansas City cops allegedly shot a purported pregnant woman five times in the parking lot of a Dollar Store.

The woman and another man were allegedly fleeing the vehicle during a reported carjacking. The woman, 26, is hospitalized in stable condition.

The New York Post provided more details:

Later Tuesday — nearly four full days after the shooting — investigators started denying the most troubling claims, that she had been pregnant and unarmed.

“Yes, she was armed with a handgun, holding the gun in her hand,” Sgt. Andy Bell of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the agency investigating the officer-involved shooting, told The Star.

However, the force was unable to confirm if she had pointed the gun at officers before the shooting, which was captured on more than one body cam, Bell told the paper.

Later, a spokesperson for the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, which is also investigating, also stressed to The Post that they “don’t believe she was pregnant.”

All suspects are presumed innocent until or unless they are convicted in a court of law of any alleged crimes.

  1. The main reason not to open carry. Is everyone carrying rifles now? WTH? I’m under gunned again. FJB

  2. Local cops are requesting the public’s help in obtaining more information about the incident.” Ummm….the criminal is in the hospital with multiple gun shot wounds according to the news article. You can likely arrest him there. Is there a reward for this invaluable information?

  3. Responding officers found the alleged rifle robber on the ground outside the store. The latter is listed in critical condition at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. — GOOD. what’s the problem?

    1. Need a lot more clarification before I can agree this was a good guy with a gun situation. First as stated here which may not accurately reflect what happened the victim grabbed a gun and began shooting. What was the victims backstop, the two bystanders who were injured? The victim left the scene but police apparently located his car. I am feeling this may be more a case of bad guy with a gun shoots bad guy with a gun. More info needed.

      1. No further info required. “Badder” guy with gun is in the hospital with multiple gun shot wounds. Let other possible bad guy continue to bait other would-be criminals. Nothing to see here.

      2. Correct. The “F” macro is gone that would bring up that BS every time you type an “F”. BUT, they still need to stop the censorship and having to log in separately for each article and now even to reply to a thread like the one we are already on! Then I will get an email asking me to verify my subscription to notifications. I think it is the democrat in BPR! Generally, that is the only explanation for extreme stupidity and fixing something that wasn’t broken!

  4. The website will not permit me to say what I hoped happened to the thief who robbed at gunpoint the person carrying the rifle.

  5. “… listed in critical condition at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.”

    Hope he doesn’t make it.

The LEOs shouldn’t bust their a$$es looking for the shooter. This should be an Unsolved Case.

    1. So, you really think a man should be allowed to walk casually through a grocery story strapped with a long gun? Have you forgotten your Ned’s today?

  6. This story falls somewhere between the Keystone Cops and the Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight. The guy that was robbed, along with his friend that also couldn’t shoot straight, is lucky they didn’t kill the robber. Gun theft when your life is no longer in danger, is not a killing event. Everybody in this story is in trouble.

  7. Of course it depends on the state and the DA, however the origional victim may be in hot water since he was no longer in danger. Especially since two innocent bystanders were wounded.

    1. I agreed but to clarify I am not opposed to the legality of open carry but I dont think it is a great idea in practice.
If I am headed home from the range, pistol still on my hip and enter a store no big deal. My own feeling is most people who practice open carry see a pistol on their hip as a sort of penis enhancer.

  8. This is why open carry, even if legal, can be a bad idea. Of course it’s tough to conceal a rifle!

    1. Why the hell was he carrying a rifle? It’s so damned awkward when you’re trying to carry stuff, and if you have to bend over to pick up something, it just slips off your shoulder and slides down to your elbow, the stock bangs against your leg, etc.

  9. There are more holes in this story than bullet holes at the shooting scene.

  10. How come websites are quick to ban comments they don’t like but they keep these “I make $1000 hr.” Get rid of this BS

    1. It is because BPR has turned into a POS FakeBook wannabe. Now check this out, try clicking on the “like” or + and see what happens. Pay attention to the number before clicking on it. I clicked like on your post and it was 27, then after I clicked on it it became 38! So I tried another at the top “Elizabeth Grimm” and I “liked” her comment even though I don’t really, but after clicking “like” it now has minus two!!! BPR is soooooo full of sh*t! A once great newsfeed turned to propaganda garbage.

      1. I agree…it’s F’d up. I sit there for ever punching away until it lights up, and then I think it recorded all my punches. Also….WTF is with having to sign back in after I read every article?

        1. It is, I used to post on almost every article. In fact, we had a rather large group of people that posted that have dropped out due to the new silly rules and censorship. We still stay in touch via email to discuss issues, we just mostly don’t bother trying to respond on BPR. Now for the most part all BPR gets are the scammers making “$92 per hour” etc. There use to be good conversation, sadly, BPR has gone the way of FakeBook which most of us have dumped also. Good luck to you!

          1. At least I havent had trouble with that shit Tommys Garage opening up full window when I was trying to type.
Well not for the past 3 days at least.
