The Mayor of Uvalde, Texas, the location of the horrific mass shooting at the Robb Elementary School, is pondering the same question that has perplexed many of his fellow Americans.
That is, why do politicians seem okay with writing a taxpayer-funded blank check for foreign aid, even benefiting hostile nations, while there are so many serious problems needing attention here at home?
Lamenting the lack of sufficient resources for mental health treatment, Don McLaughlin told Fox News in the video clip embedded above, ,”No one wants to pick up that tab…we give billions of dollars away to countries that don’t even like us. We ought to be taking that money and invest in our own country and build facilities.”
In an interview on “America Reports” while he was in his car in transit, Mayor McLaughlin underscored the need to address the psychological and emotional well-being of potential offenders. “How many times do we hear that a shooter had mental health problems — he never got help that he needed…they dropped them off the face of the earth. Nobody wants to pick up that tab to treat the mental health deal. Mental health is real.”
Anchor John Roberts prompted that portion of the discussion by quoting Mayor McLaughlin who had previously declared that it’s time for all talk and no action elected officials at all levels “to shut up and put your money where your mouth is.”
“And like I said, that’s not the only factor. The gun played a role in it, too, but what if we would have been able to help this child. What if some incident would have triggered that somebody could have caught, and we could have got him help, and we might could have avoided this,” the mayor asserted.

Rural Texas, in particular, is bereft of mental health treatment centers, he said.
“You have to go to San Antonio… or you got to go Austin. They are two and a half hours away, and a lot of these families don’t have the ability to get there…We keep talking about treating mental health, addressing the issue, and we need to quit talking about it. We give billions of dollars away to countries that don’t even like us. We ought to be taking that money and investing in our own country and building facilities.”
This shortfall is particularly pertinent given the burgeoning homeless population, many of whom are cognitive challenged, in Texas as well as throughout the country, he noted. “They’re not getting any help from anybody,” the GOP mayor contended.
McLaughlin expressed hope that his city will receive more aid going forward, and that something actually had been in the works, but he implied it was short-circuited owing to lack of funding.
“Two years ago, we started working, right before COVID started, the city donated 7-1/2 acres, and we were trying to get a mental health hospital built in Uvalde, because it would be the hub for 44 counties to be able to come to Uvalde and receive treatment. Of course, you know, all of a sudden it was a go, and then all of a sudden, we were told we had to raise $26 million to build this facility. We don’t have that kind of money.”
He added that the city is contemplating building a smaller facility. “This hospital in Uvalde would be the first opportunity to service all of these counties in our area. And hopefully we can get this hospital built and have the health that these people need in our area and the surrounding area.”
Uvalde is also the site of an illegal immigrant detention center.
Mayor McLaughlin, first elected in 2014, declined to weigh in on the controversy about the alleged failure of local cops to enter the school building immediately and confront the gunman.
“You know, whatever happened, it’s a tragedy; we’re gonna have to find out what mistakes were made or what happened, and get to the bottom of it. But I’m not on the law enforcement side, so I haven’t been privy to all their investigation,” he said.
Noting that extensive counseling services are being provided to the families on an ongoing basis, he also vowed that the close-knit, united community would eventually bounce back from the ghastly, heart-wrenching incident. “The outpouring of love from and comfort that we’re getting from all over the world and the country is one of the things that helps heal us,” the mayor said.

This evil massacre has shaken the bottle. The problem is not all about mental health and it is not all about guns. It is a dose of any societal issue one can think of. The destruction of the family unit. The absence of fathers and positive male role models. Gangs becoming the replacement for families. The dark web gives them a voice. The “male toxicity” theory. Add Covid lockdowns and isolation of young men who missed going through their rites of passage. Rites of passage such as making friends with people who don’t live in your neighborhood. Playing sports, music, working in theater, dance, and art. Joining organizations such as Student Council, ROTC, or the Four H club. Dating and meeting parents. Getting a first job and pleasing your boss and working well with others. Saving to buy a car. Getting a driver’s license. All of the other activities like going swimming, skating or cycling in a group. The Covid shut them out from these experiences and left lonely boys to find affiliation on the dark web. Critical race theory teaches students that America is bad, white people should be shamed by all, and that they are hopelessly, either white oppressors or the victim of white oppression. White babies are racists. Babies in the womb should be aborted at any time- maybe even after birth. “Restorative Justice” policies in schools and in DA’s offices. Nothing will happen to them if they go against the rules. The watering down of school curricula to achieve “equity” and allow more time for woke propaganda. Not learning proper grammar, spelling, and usage. Having no idea about world history and the achievements of the west. Being a mouthy activist spewing canned words is more important than learning basic skills so they can get a trade job or go on to higher ed. They are not taught any foundations in philosophy. They have no idea that mankind has been exploring the meaning and purpose of life since ancient times. They are in schools of thought where God does not exist but yet should be reviled. There is no such thing as absolute right and wrong. Evil is a Christian construct used to take away freedoms from humankind. People who are believers in God and Christ are anti-science and are delusional idiots who believe in fairy tales. Each person decides for themselves what is good or bad. God is only worth mocking, even though he does not exist. He cannot even make babies in the right bodies. Man is superior to God. Violent movies, music, and games are harmless fun. Pornography is a healthy way to blow off steam. The world is ending because of climate change and young people have nothing to look forward to because their parents and grandparents’ generations used up all the bounty the earth had to give and stole the future from them. Add to this cocktail of doom, unhealthy diets, weed, booze, and pills, narcissism, lack of impulse control, irrational anger, deep depression, panic, and anxiety, the growing and ever-popular trend of gender dysphoria. Then, mix it all together with the natural factors of boys’ frontal lobe brain development which has not yet been completed. They literally do not have the brains to think in terms of cause and effect in real-world situations. Now, top it all off with a lacking of real-world experiences where they are expected to prove themselves to be reliable, dependable, honorable, trustworthy, and hard-working. The teenage rites of passage that they missed were to provide many real-life experiences to develop good character. Now, put a gun in their hands and threaten to cut their wifi lifeline or take away their phone. Tantamount to asking for war. Not surprised.
Can’t forget Big Pharma, they like to leave pharma drug use out too. Drugs were involved with the 2/14 parkland shooter, they like to leave out important facts of investigations.

A couple questions. What do ‘mental health’ facilities do? Have they ever ‘cured’ anybody? I do know they ‘prescribe’ drugs that make people even crazier, or turn them into zombies. I also know that many of these counselors are crazier than their patients. If it wasn’t for the ACLU, I would be all for building ‘facilities’ to house/feed ALL these ‘mental’ people. For the rest of their life! Instead of the old leper colonies, build new state hospitals. What’s old is new again.
