MSNBC features anti-cop activist who claims Uvalde school shooting proof that police need to be abolished

Democrats and their fellow travelers are swarming to cram through new restrictions on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans after the elementary school massacre in Uvalde, Texas and some also see an opportunity to jump start the campaign to abolish the police, one of them took her case to MSNBC to preach to the choir about eliminating law enforcement.

On Saturday’s edition of “The Cross Connection” with host Tiffany Cross, anti-cop activist Brittany Packnett Cunningham said that the failure of the Uvalde Police Department to prevent the murder of 19 young children and their two teachers is rock solid proof that the Black Lives Matter cause to “defund the police” is more necessary than ever.

Cunningham, who was a member of Barack Obama’s task force on 21st Century Policing, agreed with Democrats that “assault rifles” need to be banned, the first step in the much larger effort to disarm Americans that is the left’s Holy Grail but also grafted the BLM agenda onto the for Draconian new gun laws.

“Look, it is really easy to want to individualize this,” a peculiar defense of the Uvalde shooter, “but words like deranged and senseless can often help us individualize this and push us away from actually looking at systems,” she said.

“There is no amount of mental health funding or red flag laws or universal background checks alone that would have stopped this massacre,” she added. “We need to not only add the things that help people and keep people healthy, but we need to remove the tools of violence, that is about removing assault weapons at the very least, assault ammunition at the very least.”

“I also want to say by the way that if these police officers who were standing outside and were afraid for their lives would not go and protect 19 innocent children, a school full of innocent children and teachers and police officers also kill somebody when they are afraid for the lives then we need to seriously examine the entire institution of policing because what is the point,” she said.

Later in the segment, Cunningham returned to the theme of police abolishment.

“There are some things that clearly cannot be legislated, there are things that cannot be reformed and I think that we have to really reckon with the kind of hero worship we’ve engaged in around policing in America,” she said. “I think sadly Uvalde is a terrible and tragic example of just how not incompetent, but problematic the entire institution is.”

Cunningham continued, “As I said before break, if the police kill, taze and maim unarmed people because they feared for their lives, and they won’t stop armed people from slaughtering children, then clearly the institution itself is not sound.”

“Uvalde provides 40% of their municipal budget to policing and I’m very sure that being tackled and handcuffed while you are trying to go in and rescue your own children is not what the residents of that town pay for, it’s certainly not what taxpayers across the country thank they’re paying for” she said. “Police have actually spent many many years and a lot of money actually litigating the fact that they do not have to endanger their lives if they don’t want to, which is fine, that’s a challenging thing to ask of anybody but what the means is that we should stop telling people that’s what they do.”

“We should stop leading with this serve and protect idea because that’s frankly not often how they function,” she added. “We have to recognize that there is a culture, in media and in television and in film, that has created this incontrovertible narrative that police are perfect and they are heroes and everything they do is done with authority that should be respected without question, instead of the fact that we can look at other countries and recognize that at the very least, disarming police, demilitarizing police but really thinking creatively about how we will abolish policing as we know it, and really get to the meaning of public safety because that’s what our communities deserve.”

“It’s not just what we take away when we talk about abolition, it’s about what we create in terms of creating healthy communities and healthy solutions,” she said, “but the institution of policing has far too long convinced us that they are here to serve and protect us when so often what they’re always doing, is actually enforcing the will of the state and they are terrorizing often black and brown people in order to do that.”

Realizing that it is political poison, Democrat have walked back their defund the police rhetoric of the post-George Floyd days after crime skyrocketed in cities under their control but the idea has never gone away and could make a big comeback as the left celebrates the second anniversary of the death of their cherished martyr figure.

  1. I suspect that officers at the school shooting were instructed to stand down. No reasonable man would allow small children to be killed in cold blood. The story is being politicized on two fronts, the dismantling of the 2nd Amendment and defunding police. Democrats know too have control of the people they must take all elements that allows people to defend themselves. One way to create urgency is by making things chaotic. School shootings build’s fear among parents who want their children safe. Taking away guns from law bidding citizens will give a false sense of safety. If you have no right to defend your home government and predator’s alike will take what they want. That’s where we’re headed as nation.

  2. Tiffany Cross regularly hosts racist and destructive panelists and views. MSNBC loves this. Is anybody really listening?

  3. If the dumb ass teacher had folliwed security protocol, their would not be any deaths, except maybe the shooter.

  4. Well, she IS a NEGRO, so we expect lower intelligence from a Brown Turd. Besides CRIME, Unwanted Children, Crack use, Welfare, Free Everything, Supporting Prisons, BLAMING ALL OTHER Races, for THEIR inability to prosper and their Infamous RACE CARDS, what exactly DO Negros contribute?

  5. As much noise as I hear from the left about being anti 2nd amendment, All I can think of is empty cans make the most noise. When 13 people were shot in Buffalo, over 33 were shot in Chicago without a peep from the press. It shows that black lives really do not matter. FJB

  6. As soon as I heard the three letters that scream “WE HATE WHITES” and/or “BURN LOOT MURDER” I knew it would just be another chance for this criminal element to spew more hatred. The only thing that is wrong about the country right now is the division caused by this type of ideology. Not just blm but there’s others among them , the proud boys come to mind. However, we have to acknowledge that blm being racist is not any better than tpb’s being racist. They do not cancel each other out. For some reason though it’s like blm can say or do anything they see fit no matter what feelings it may cause to surface. That’s not what is acceptable to them though. That’s reverse discrimination plain and simple. The White House is doing everything they can to help stoke the fire of separation. They have every main stream media outlet available for the dirty work to be shoved down our throats. Our throats, African Americans, Caucasians, Latin Americans, and Asians. If you think your being exempt from this trickery, your the fool they are targeting. If we are ever going to live in a country that we picture, then together we are going to have to build it. Apart like we are now and we won’t accomplish anything.

    1. Proud Boys are NOT Racists. It is SELL OUTS, as YOU, who give these Ghetto Negros what they want>>TIMID Whites, who will surrender to them. FK THAT.

  7. As long as the corrupt and treasonous MSM give these black Anti-White activists a mic, in which too scream in, the more divided this country will become!!!!

  8. Ms. Cunningham is unwittingly acting on behalf of the NRA, as, if police are cancelled, what recourse do people have, but, to own, and, carry, guns for self protection?

    1. and what is wrong with people owning guns? Far more people die in motor vehicle accidents than in shootings where a law-abiding citizen was defending themselves, so maybe we should eliminate motor vehicles except for professionally trained drivers, AKA public transportation. Well, Mayor, self-defense is a NATURAL RIGHT, driving is a privilege. If someone kicks in my door at 2 AM, I’m not going to wait for the police. Besides, maybe you should read the courts’ decisions in Warren vs. District of Columbia, 1981.

    1. Indeed. And what’s so sad and at the same time scary is that the ignorance virus is so very contagious and democrats are so eager to catch it.
